I have been looking at getting another high-end 1911 and I've been doing some research. I already have an Ed Brown Special Forces government and bobtailed commander. Fusion Firearms builds a lot of various 1911s (mostly 10mm) for less than $1500. Each 1911 is built after ordering with an 8-10 week delivery period. Anybody have any experience with Fusion 1911s? I've been looking at the new Nighthawk T-3, but the pricetag is $2700.

Bob Serva was the CEO of Dan Wesson before they were bought by CZ.

I have not purchased one of his pistols yet but he is top notch smith and runs a tight shop from everything I have heard. His prices are incredible for what you get. IMHO

If you haven't already looked over at the 1911 forum, there's lots of good reviews about Fusion there...

Haven't bought anything but I e-mailed for a quote on a Sunday night at about 7pm and checked my e-mail a couple of hours later and Bob had already sent a quote back to me. How's that for being on the ball?

Bob did a great job responding to my emails as well. However I went with a Kimber just because for the amount of money of .45 ammo, I won't be shooting the 1911 a whole lot, maybe twice a month at most for a couple hours each session. But if ammo were cheaper I would get a Fusion for sure. If you want a 1911 from him but don't need the latest and greatest internals and other bells and whistles, just let him know and he will give you a good qoute for an entry level gun.

Looking at his 1911s, they don't look like entry level guns. I would buy one in .45 and not 10mm. 10mm is too exspensive. They definitely appear one step above off the shelf 1911s. I'm torn between one of his commanders in .45 and a Springfield TRP.

You are the only person I have seen that has had a problem with fusion's work, and that that was built on a springfield to try and get a california legal if I remember right. It still should run, but I think any gunsmith should get at least one chance to fix a problem gun that may make it out.

I seriously have no respect for someone that gets a gun that has problems and refuse to send it back to be fixed but still bad mouths them. I have known of Browns, wilson's, baers, etc. that had problems and have had to be sent back and I think anyone deserves at least one chance to put right a problem. Bob's service is second to none. I think anyone that gets a problem gun from any maker and refuses to send it back just wants to hear themselves whine.

One only has to read this thread to see that they were more than willing to take care of the problem, but harrygunner did not want to let them fix it.

The OP asked for experiences, this is mine.

Fusion Firearms cashed my checks and sent me that gun.

If you can cite an abomination like this released from Ed Brown, Les Baer, Yost, Nighthawk, etc. let me know.

Does Fusion get their slides and frames from STI?

I've noticed the cocking serations on the slide are the same and the front strap stippling are the same.

I gave you my opinion harrygunner. They were willing to fix the problem and you refused to give them the chance, I expect any gunmaker to get the chance to fix a problem gun and you did not give it to them. You get no sympathy from me until they do not fix it after given the chance. I have been around a lot of years and HAVE seen problem guns from all the makers you name, I said the same thing send it back and let them make it right. You do not choose to do that so you get no sympathy from me.

The thread at 1911auto.org where you refused to deal with him speaks volumes.

If you look at fusion's inventory they seem to use frames and slides from sti and somewhere else also. The pro series is forged frames. They carry many different brands of parts rebadged as fusion and if you want something on a gun they do not carry he will build it they way you want and with the parts you want. He is a true custom shop if you want to go that way.
