Mayors boycotting gun companies.

Choosing a service sidearm for police agencies is serious business. Law enforcement procurement officers will be less than pleased to learn that their political overseers seem to want them to go back to revolvers in order to make a point in the gun control debate. In Minneapolis, the deputy chief said “ultimately, it is the chiefs decision what gun is going to be authorized for use by the department,” but the city attorney countered by saying “the city can always set reasonable specifications for the purchases it’s making."


So they would restrick there police to make a point??

Agreed. So these mayors are fine with endangering police officers lives because of their politics. Seriously. Give them the best tools for their jobs and don't punish them for your stupidity.

I think that most police unions are not going back to accept revolvers, when
hicap semiautos give them a firepower advantage. This is an officer safety issue. Also, if you consider overpenetration with .357 Magnum loads in a revolver vs. a modern JHP in a nice premium defense loading (either 9mm, .40cal, or 45) it becomes a bystander safety issue as well. Also, there is no magazine release
safety function on a revolver. So for a lot of reasons this is a no-brainer. The unions fought like hell in places like NYC to get away from .38 Spl in revolvers, they would be insane to let this happen.

LOL...This is a good thing! Let them be vocal, keep stirring up the pot and making headline news. It helps everyone remember who to vote out in the next election.

Speaking of, do we have a thread anywhere with a store of data on the politicians? I know there's the NRA ratings, but it might be good to keep a database of issues/details about these people(I haven't actually looked for one). I know the next time I vote, it's going to be straight pro 2a ticket regardless of any other issues.

Let them boycott gun companies. The bulk of their purchases come from civilian sales anyway.

These politicians are completely out of touch with reality.

The mayors would get their panties in a wad if the boycotted gun companies decided to not service the police department weapons. I think Barrett did that with the L.A. swat and their .50 cal guns.
Might shift some thinking.

I would guess that most gun companies are not for gun control. So basically their cops won't be able to get sidearms. Dumb idea by the mayors, they will only piss off the police officers having to deal with this

This is great, let's throw more people out of work. We are not just talking about the gun company itself, but the people that make the packaging, truck drivers, advertising revenue, retail stores that need product to sell, customer service reps, rifle and pistol ranges, ammo mfgs, and their packagers, delivery people, UPS and FFL transfers, holster makers, tack light companys, laser mfgs, grocery stores that the employees of these companies purchase from as well as Walmart and the shirts, pants and toys that are bought for the children of the workers, etc... etc... not to mention the farmers that sell food that feeds them.

These jack a$$es have no ideal that they will ruin the economy and everything that has been built up over the years. Any mayor that want's to ban anything and take our jobs and send them overseas should be run out of office.

Here's a little known fact, but the office of mayor does not need to exist. The legal authority lies in the city council and they can at any time eliminate the office of mayor and just hire a professional city administrator that answers to them. All they do is appoint a council president (from one of the aldermens) to run the city meetings and the office of mayor becomes past history.

How about gun companies boycott the mayors?

It would suck for them if when they needed new pistol contracts and all the good companies "do a Barrett on them" by refusing to sell them anything the citizens can't purchase.

I would feel bad for the officers but it would really drive the point home.

We, also, need to put pressure on the gun companies. We need to remind them where their profits come from, and we want them, for instance, to only provide the LEOs in NY to mags that only hold 7 rounds. Things like that.

Sorry if the good men/women working as LEOs are caught in the middle. Maybe they should take a united stand as well.

We've had our gun companies sells arms to some of the most repressive dictatorships in history, places where there is no private ownership of guns, no free speech, jailing/killing of political dissenters, etc. in some cases even violating U.S. law by paying ""consulting fees" to those in charge of the procurement process. So does anybody think they won't sell to any U.S. city that offers cash money for large volume sales?

I think that Zorro45 touches on the subject about over penatration , and should include the the concern of excessive use of force which may cause litagation , thats why the CHP in Calif, had to stop carrying the 10mm , personall I think if a cop has to use force I think he should have all the force he can handle, and use for the purpose of difusing the situation, questions come up in the past how big of a caliber is best me, or a small thin guy, or a woman , i have always thought that u should shoot the biggest caliber u can shoot well , and accurately , I think cops should have that choice , but we dont need a lot of Dirty Harrys either
