If you don't know what it is, why are you trying to ban it? So sad, but I can't believe the Interviewer actually called her on it.

McCarthy is there on a sympathy platform. She ran as a gun control candidate using her husband's murder as a springboard.

Edit: I just emailed her asking her what a barrel shroud is and if I needed to be worried about being killed by a barrel shroud before she gets them banned. I thanked her for trying to rid the world of those evil barrel shrouds. :evil:

I was reading today about your bill, HR1022. One of the things that scared me was reference to 'barrel shrouds'. They sound very dangerous. Exactly what is a barrel shroud? Should I be worried about being killed by a barrel shroud before you have them banned? Should I remain in my home until all of the barrel shrouds are rounded up and destroyed?

Thank you for doing your best to protect me from the insidious dangers posed by these evil implements of death.

Phaetos, you probably made the mistake of posting late at night, just as the originator of this thread did.

Art's an old fart, and probably goes to sleep about 8 pm. It may be sometime around 5 am, after he's had his eggs and coffee at the local diner, that he'll notice the duplicate threads.

Maybe he'll close yours. Maybe he'll close this one.

One thing is for sure: just hope he doesn't have a barrel shroud when he closes one of the threads. That danged thing could blow THR into cyberspace forever.
 
ACtually, Monkey, I posted fairly early in the evening. And he did already close mine or someone did anyway. All those mod's names start to run together.
 
Phaetos, I think that's a great idea. But let's give them something that they can easily find out exists, but have no idea what it does.

For example: ejector shrouds. Yeah, they're for revolvers, but who cares? And, if they're "shrouding" something, they must be hiding something.

And what about AR15/M16 ejection port covers? What are they covering up? What are they hiding that could harm "The Children?"

Let's not forget "plastic guns." No matter that this subject was voted upon (and passed) by the US Congress in 1988 (Dick Cheney was one of two congressmen who voted against a bill that would ban something that did not exist, and would likely never exist).

Let's feed McCarthy's staff with all sorts of bogeymen. The closer her paranoia and ignorance gets to the average hunter, the better our odds of shutting her down.

If she doesn't even know what a barrel shroud is, then she and her staff know nothing at all about guns.

Let's use that ignorance to our advantage.

That ROTFLMAO acronym, by the way, applies to pretty much anything that McCarthy has to say.
 
I showed this video to my wife, who also didn't know what a barrel shroud was.

I explained that it's a safety feature to prevent burns and showed her some pictures; I think she has a lesser opinion of legislators now.
 
question, isn't that why they first started putting wooden forends on henry rifles? so you could hold onto it as it heated up from firing?

Not that such a law should be made, nor would any such law make a jack bit of difference, but how would one write a description of a 'barrel shroud' in such a way to distinguish it from standard 'stock' which does shroud half the barrel, so you don't grab the hot tube itself.

I fear the term barrel shroud will get in by picturing the forend of a tec-9, a light metal tube full of holes for easier cooling, and that later on it will be applied to all 'non wooden' stocks...and after that, all wooden ones too
 
If she is that confused about a 'thing that goes up', just be glad she's not trying to make laws about sex.
