Same deal as CA and the goofy law they just passed. They know the ammo mfgs won't do it so you'll no longer be able to buy ammo in MD. Their method of gun control without actually saying you can't have one.

ammo

I remember when Maryland was known as the free state
what happened?:cuss::banghead:

Wouldn't this add $25 to the cost of a brick(500) of .22 ammo??? Sounds like it would be an un-fair burden on poor citizens (much like a poll tax). Will someone challenge it if it passes?????

looks like people could just drive out from DC to somewhere else, like Virginia, and buy ammo to their heart's content. Then they'll probably pass a law saying that non-encoded ammo is a felony.

Glad I dont live in one of the five gun-hater cities/states

One very important correction:

This law won't apply to the law enforcement agencies in the state.

Some pigs are more equal.

of course, because...lets be honest. Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others. I guess it doesnt matter that SCOTUS is likely to overturn the ban the way things are looking, because MD isnt going down without taking guns with them in one way or another. Too bad the ban didnt reduce crime, and if they were to ever acknowledge that fact, then they'd be like New York and blame us Virginians for it all.

It just does away with ammunition.

Quote, from the First Reading:
(B) A MANUFACTURER THAT VIOLATES THIS SUBTITLE IS SUBJECT TO A
CIVIL FINE TO BE IMPOSED BY THE SECRETARY AND NOT EXCEEDING:
(1) $1,000 FOR A FIRST VIOLATION;
(2) $5,000 FOR A SECOND VIOLATION; AND
(3) $10,000 FOR A THIRD OR SUBSEQUENT VIOLATION.

:end quote

No manufacturer would take that risk.

Ammunition for regulated firearms ... can someone please enlighten me on what that might be?

MikeH
In MD pistols and certain rifles like EBRs are called regualted firearms and are subject to additional laws.

"This law won't apply to the law enforcement agencies in the state."

Only the tax is not applied to the police. The police have no exemption from the serial numbers which means they would have to pay the high price of the ammo as well.

The serialization of ammo is new but the ammo tax is nothing new in MD they do it at least every other year. One year I think it was 50 cents per round.

Oh well in one year and 4 months I'll be moving across the river to VA.

Didn't the Ballistic fingerprinting database teach the MORONs anything??

I guess it doesnt matter since this is not going to make one bit of difference to crimminals at all. Guns have serial numbers and have been required to be sold with a background check for the last 10 years, and it didnt stop crime.

Yet another reason I'm sooooo glad I got out of there!

Yea, for now. If these dangerous bills take hold in just 1 state, it will spread like wildfire.

Best to get involved in these types of fights now even if you don't live in this state.

Its only a matter of time folks.
