Mech Tech sells a carbine conversion matched to 1911 45acp's for about $350 that look awful cool, but how do they perform? Anyone have a 1911 converted to carbine? Any suggestions as to which model works best or how the conversion performs? Thanks much! (don't know if this belongs in 'rifle country'...)

Bought one when they first came out. Started with a single stack and found that even with 10 rds it wasn't enough. Have a Para double stack on it. Real fun to shoot. Real accurate at least as far as it can shoot with a red dot on it. Will fire light to heavy loads. Real quiet also. Always get asked about it at the range.
Would highly recommended it.
And no I don't have any affiliation with them. Just have a lot of fun with it.

They do look cool, especially with the M4 stock. Don't you have to use hotter loads with them, though?

Hi Plink,
I have two of them -- one in .45 and one in 10mm.
The .45 is set up for my Para-Ordnance frame and has the factory rail/iron sights --- the 10mm is set up with a Tasco Red Dot.
Both of the MT units work GREAT !!!! You need to run the units a little "hot" --- my Bullseye loads in .45 , 185gr. SWC at 700fps doesn't cycle 100% -- but my 200gr. SWCs at 900fps. run 99.9%.
Look at EBAY or other online sites --- I got both my used for less then $300.

Im loving mine. well worth the modest cost.

I have more of a review on my site about it but the short answer is:
Very well made. Looks great. Shoots even better. Still trying to get the 15 rnd mags to run through but other than that its a great way to add new life to an old 1911. And yes I find the 200gr does cycle better. So far no brands stick out as btter or worse. More about the grane I suspect.
