Medusa Revolver

Hey guys, I'm looking at buying one of those Medusa Revolvers.
The trouble is that I cannot find one or even get a price on one...
I want this bad boy because it shoots 9mm, .357 and .38's....
Don't ask me how it does, but I hear it does.

they do seeem pretty intersting. . . .im still not sure how it handles the different calibers though, does it require a cylender change?

Each chamber has an individually sprung ejector, no star, so it can hold any of the 30 cal cartirdges in a place that the firing pin will hit the primer, and the bullet wil go into the forcing cone....acurracy sucks on anything but 38/357, but when all you have is 30 Luger, and a Medusa, it will fire it....

I beleive the company that produced them is no longer and the rights of this model were sold to gary Reeder and he now makes it as the Scorpian model.

The Medusa was sold to Colt, who produced it very briefly as the Colt Survivor....find one of those for a pretty penny, no doubt!

Dunno if the .357Max will work or not.

The list does not, of course, include the .357SIG, 9mm Mak & 9x25 Dillon and other 9mm rounds which will not work in the revolver.

It also doesn't list rounds that WILL chamber and fire safely but have different bore diameters such as 7.62x25 & 30 Luger.

I'm probably missing a few and I'm not entirely sure the 9x23 will work, but that's pretty close--I think they inflate the list a bit by listing .38 spl, .38spl +P, .38spl +P+ as different cartridges, and also listing some calibers multiple times under different names such as .380ACP, 9mm Browning, 9mm Kurz (all different names for the .380)

So I get a list with 17 rounds on it. Of those rounds, something like 10-12 of them are obsolete, reloading only propositions, or not easily found in the U.S. So realistically we're talking about a revolver that can chamber and fire (with reasonable accuracy) around 5 different calibers that are reasonably common.

Kinda neat, I guess...

Ok, lets look a their list.

.380 ACP and 9mm Kurz are identical.

.38spl, .38spl+P, .38spl+P+ are identical.

9mm Luger and 9mm Parabellum are identical.

I believe that .38 Auto and .38 ACP are identical.

I believe that the 9mm Export is identical to the 9mm Mauser also called the 9x25 (NOT 9x25Dillon which is a bottleneck cartridge based on the 10mm case).

Never heard of a .38 Mid-Range (???) Another loading for the .38 Special perhaps?

Anyway, here's my list updated from their site but eliminating duplications.

9mm Luger/9mm Parabellum/9x19mm, 9mm Largo, 9x21mm, .380ACP/9mmKurz/9mm Browning, .38Spl, .38S&W, .38ACP, .38 Super, .357Mag, 9x18 Ultra, 9mm Glisenti, .38Short Colt, .38 Long Colt, 9mm Federal (rimmed), 9mm Browning Long (9x20), .356TSW, 9x23, 9mm Win Mag, 9mm Steyr, 9mm Export/9x25/Mauser, .380 Rimmed/Revolver.

That works out to 21--not quite 25, but still impressive.

Again, from that list only 5 are really reasonably common and available in the U.S.

It's also worth noting that any .357 revolver will fire 6 of the cartridges on the list and if you got a .357Max revolver you could add one more to the list. Also, if you can find an Astra blowback, it will fire a good number of the 9mm cartridges off the list--probably 7 of them or so.

I was fascinated by them too until I saw someone who will take a stock S&W or Ruger cylinder and machine it out the same way for considerably less.

So, apart from being able to shoot 9mm Luger, what real advantage is there? How many rounds of 9mm Glisenti do you have sitting around? I've never even seen (and outside of this heard of) the cartridge.

I never heard of a "Medusa" revolver before and I just finished reading the DaVinci code and in that book the gun is mentioned. I no sooner finish the book and come here browsing, and whammo, medusa revolver. Must be a disturbance in the matrix.

What, they won't chamber the 1895 Nagant's 7.62x38r? Well, that is a deal-breaker for me... and my dealer, Southeastern Guns in Birmingham, Alabama, has a new one in his case. Seems like it was $769-$799. They have a website.
