Melonite finish on XD45?

Okay, I know my XD45 has a Melonite finish which is supposedly similar to Glock's Tenifer finish. My XD45 has a couple surface scratches (not deep at all) that appear gray/silver, like something just rubbed the black off.

Is the black just a coloring applied over the Melonite?

Melonite(nitrocarburizing) goes anywhere between .07mm and .75mm deep, so unless you've got a really deep scratch it should be just fine.

Its pretty much the same thing as tenifer, same process and all, just a different name.
