Well Santa came a little early for me. I managed to find a good condition Ruger Vaquero 7 1/2" .44 Magnum with a mint bore and a few spots of minor surface rust for a whopping $150 :D Given the Alaska inflation that hits any .44 Magnum revolver, that's like $100 in lower 48 terms. Ha ha. The fellow selling it had numerous calls after I got my dibs in, but I pushed my way through crosstown traffic and grabbed it. That's an unheard of price for a big magnum here.

I'm removing the wee spots of rust with some bore gel right now and will post picks later. The action is rock solid, trigger pull very crisp, esp. for a newer edition Ruger.

We be happy. Oh yeah.

This almost makes up for the time I sold my MOA SAFN for $350.

Look at this one. Same revolver for $497

Retail for a new hogleg .44 Mag. Vaquero is $450 to $500 locally. Used price would be at least $350 for one in this quality.

I'd feel worse if I hadn't lost my own shirt in so many deals when I was short for cash. With savings like these I could even afford to have some custom work done on this Ruger.

Apparently Ruger has stopped making the old Vaquero in .44 Magnum, so the deal is even better than I thought.

I'll be very interested to see how it shoots. IMHO 7" of barrel is about ideal for a .44 Mag handgun. I don't really like the SAA style stock. If it's a good shooter I may try to convert it to a poor man's Keith No.5 by putting on a Bisley style grip.
