Looking for a steel or alloy frame 40 for under $500 So far as i see it, my options are Ruger P series, Tanfoglio Witness, and Bersa thunder 40.

A used S&W 5906 is probably the most under rated 40 out there. There are a lot of police trade ins at good prices because most LEO are going to polymer guns.

CZ is another option.

Edit: Just re-read my post. 5906 is 9mm, I meant to say 4006

One of my local dealers just traded a truck load of S&W 4006TSW all with tritium sights. Used Atlanta PD sidearms for cheap, I think under $400. They are dirty (need to set aside a full day to clean just 1), but at that price still a great deal.

I have seen a number of Beretta 96D's out there lately. They are police trade ins, usually have some wear, but come with 2 11rd mags, and are priced around $400.

CZ, S&W, Beretta, Ruger, EAA/Tangfolio, I also believe there are a few 1911's out there, etc....

My PERSONAL choice for an ALL STEEL model would probably be the CZ

S&w 410

I have a S&W 410, its kind of the "economy" version of the 4006. Mine hasn't had a failure of any kind in about 1500 rounds, and its a little lighter than the 4006. The 410 has an aluminum frame and I believe the 4006 frame is steel (not positive though).

.....

great buy on 4043,it would be 450.00 this neck of the woods in vg.smith wesson anything 9mm/40/45 has shot way up.

Very compact but heavy, very reliable and built to last. Firestar. The common complaint is that parts are hard to find, that's true for older versions. These were one of the later offerings and a good solid CCW gun.
I found this overpriced one on GB, but there is another with a poor quality photo for just over 3 bills.

Yea, I'm looking to spend $450 or less. At this point, the actual purchase wont be for at least a month, probably more like 2 months.

If J&G still has a good price on their S&W 4043 Trade ins, then i will get one. If the total cost of the gun ($370) + shipping ($22) + the transfer fee is $400 or less, then thats what i will get.

If it totals over $400, i will just purchase a Ruger P94 New. Iv owned P-series int he past, and was happy with it.

If I recall the S&W's that CDNN have are less than $350, or were about 9 months ago. Mine looks new, other than the grips I replaced.

Beretta 8040, DAO if you can find one. CDNN had 'em super cheap a while back, and I got a pair (full size and mini). Summit ( http://www.summitgunbroker.com/ ) had some a while back, they seem to be out now too. Best thing going in a .40, the action design really handles the recoil well. The Stoeger is the same gun, different name, though AFAIK they only offer a DA/SA action.

The discontinued CZ 40B was being sold by CDNN last year for $289. I dont think that have them anymore, but they pop up on internet auction site's occasionally for cheap. I picked up my via auctionarms for $275. This pistol should easily sell for $500. It is a cz 75 internally and kind of looks like a colt commander on the outside.
