are there any?

i ask this because i was about to buy a Bersa Thunder 9mm when i discovered to my dismay that it has an aluminum alloy frame (we hates the aluminum)

i have a BHP in my sights now, but im wondering what some other good steel frame pistols are? (are sigs steel-framed?)

also, i am fully aware of 1911s with their steely frame-ness

There are not many modern steel framed pistols. There are some relatively rare steel framed SIG's and Beretta's. Some CZ's too.

CZ-75B if you are looking for a 9mm. SIGs in stainless.

I don't understand the hate for alloy frames though - they are plenty tough and last a lifetime, so nothing inherently wrong or inferior about them.

i just got done reading a lengthy review of the Beretta 92fs, which spoke about its alum frame, and the problems caused by it...just turns me off even more to alum frames

unless someone can provide counterpoint?

Definitely cannot go wrong with a hi-power, but I'd look at the clones unless you want it in .40. I have both a Bulgarian Arcus 94 and a Hungarian FEG. The Arcus is my favorite 9mm ever. It is very accurate and has the MKIII ambi safety. I shoot one ragged hole with it out to 15 yards at the range. My FEG has been well worth the $199 I spent on it ten years ago. Also shoots very tight groups. The weakness was the finish. I had the gun parkerized and it is a great looking piece now. I have a nice FN .40 MKIII, but it is a safe queen. When she goes to the range, she is as accurate as the FEG.

Another steel gun to consider is the CZ-75. I have a "B" model in .40 that just might be the most accurate auto-pistol I have ever fired. It's low bore axis and weight make .40s feel like hot .380s.

Don't overlook the steel frame Kahrs if you want a smaller carry piece. I got one because I don't like plastic frames too much (no likee glock) and I am very pleased with it.

There are the Makarovs and the other Iron Curtain pistols chambered for Makarov. Is the Stoeger Cougar steel or aluminum? It's a very nice pistol.

Frankly, I have no problem with a well-engineered forged and machined alloy frame. It's not like the diecast junk that's on the low end of the market.

also, i will say that i realize that Beretta likely has everything ironed out by now for an alum frame but that doesnt mean anything to me...there shouldnt be anything to iron out in the first place...just use steel...extra weight may be an inconvenience, but its not as big an inconvenience as when the alum frame fails

obsolete? i think thats a bit extreme...just because its not ideal for every situation doesnt make it obsolete

hmm...lets get back on track...moar recomends plz

S&W 3rd generation stainless pistols have steel frames, were made in large quantities, and are available at very reasonable prices (police trade-ins have kept their market value depressed).

If there is a viable market segment to be sold to, a product is not obsolete.

Paperback books (digital books?!?!) serve the same function as hardcover, and perhaps even do many things better (weight, portability, size, etc.). Just as there are only a few isolated scenarios where I would consider a paperback book, there are very few scenarios where I would even consider a plastic pistol.

Which there is not for a steel framed pistol. How many modern (last 60~ years) full production steel framed auto pistols are there? The only popular steel framed pistol is the 1911, and that's just in the U.S..

Then you are being close minded. Polymer is superior to steel as a frame material in every way.

I am very fond of my p 64 in a 9x18 ,which ammo is available for any use even Buffalo bore has one . Very accurate in a concealable pistol Scott

actually now that u mention it, i have had the desire for a p64 on the back burner for a few weeks now

might need to look into that...

anyone have any input on how the p64 compares to the p83?
