WASHINGTON -- A Metro Transit police officer was not hurt Wednesday after three people apparently shot at him.

Police said the shooting happened near the intersection of 49th and Quarles streets in Northeast D.C. shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Two suspects have already been arrested and two weapons were recovered. Officers are still looking for a third suspect.

Officers said the three people opened fire in the uniformed officer's direction as he sat in a marked Metro police car.

The officer was not injured in the attack and the officer's car was not hit either. Police are now trying to find out if he was the intended target, or if the men were shooting at someone else.

The officer was working on an anti-auto theft effort at the time of the shooting.

Metro officials said the shooting happened near the Deanwood and Minnesota Avenue Metro Station on the Orange Line. Trains running through the area were not slowed by the incident.

The shooting is just the latest incident of violence in the city. Some city leaders are calling for a new crime emergency to help the Metropolitan Police Department combat the violence.

Can you imagine just sitting there and....WIZZ! Bullets start flying by your head! I imagine there's quite the pucker factor as you seek to locate the source of the shots! Bet it seems like the longest seconds of your entire life! Apparently sometimes a uniform can be the same thing as a bullseye!

Uh, folks, those "city leaders" ARE a crime emergency!

Apparently sometimes a uniform can be the same thing as a bullseye!

This is news? That's why I have no problem with cops "getting" to carry off duty.

Of course, during riots, this courtesy is extended to firefighters and paramedics, too.
