I have no idea when this thing was originally began. The gunsmith who started it died in 2001 so maybe he started this thing in the 90's. Anyway, the screw hole spacing will not fit a Leopold, Talley, or any other current scope base that I can find. Distance between the two front screws is 0.75" and distance between the front/rear and rear screw holes is 4.00". All the current scope bases I have seen are 0.86" between the front screw holes.

Anyone have any idea what scope base he may have drilled this action for? Maybe an old Redfield one piece base?

Considering it having two in the ring and one in the bridge, I'm certain it's a one-piece base. But also considering OP's measurements, I couldn't say which one either.

Yep, it's gotta be for a one-piece. That's why I figured maybe an old Redfield. Those are the only one-piece mounts I know of that were used a lot 20-40 years ago or so. But a newer Redfield won't fit so I'm wondering if they changed their screw hole spacing at some point.

my dad has a old redfield base on his byf, its the same as a leupold 98 base.

The plot thickens. A guy on gunbroker has a Redfield Jr mount for a small ring Mauser and he measured the screw hole spacing for me. It's the same as a Leupold--0.86" between the front holes.

Just a thought: any 1-piece base which mates up to the receiver shape/height and is long enough to span over all the holes should be workable. The holes in the base are countersunk but not threaded. It will be very simple to drill properly spaced holes in the base without anything more specialized than a center punch and drill bits of appropriate size. If 2 of the existing holes (rear plus 1 front) already line up, then the offset of 1/10 inch will create a figure 8 hole however it won't affect function once torqued down with loctite.
