Picatinny Scope base spacing?

Working on a build that is based on the Ed brown 704 action. The action is on the exterior a Remington 700 footprint.

I ordered a long action picatinny scope base for the rifle, and to my oversight, it did not fit.

The action is threaded to accept 8-40 screws. There are four holes tapped. Both measure .865” hole to hole. Length from rear to front hole is 5.963”. Am I missing something? Is there a 700 footprint rail that meets these screw spacing parameters? Ideally I’d like not to have to make a custom base.

Lots of custom action clones use them as do military versions.

I should clarify, the problem I’m having is not with the 8-40 thread. It’s the spacing between the screws. Most all Remington 700 actions have the rear screws around .60” not .865”

Savage flat backs have about that hole spacing if i remember correctly, but i dont think any remington ever did

You’re right, good observation. still however the 1st-4th screw spacing isn’t the same

Might be a custom mount, i cant think of any common actions that were longer than the savage, not with a flat rear especially.

So the rear screw spacing is wider than standard...new one on me.

Apparently Murphy Precision makes bases for my action. Much more than I wanted to spend, but I went with them to avoid headache. I’ve heard their rails are like a work of art. I never thought I’d hear that said about rails haha

Sometimes convenience is worth the cost, especially when it comes with outstanding quality.
One of their rails was suggested for my CZ by an accuracy nut.....im pretty sure he'd be offended to know what rings im actually using.....
