Yes, apparently, being bipolar means that you're prone to claiming you have a bomb and refusing cooperation with officers who have drawn their weapons on you. And what's the next thing you do? Why! Reach into your bag, OF COURSE!

The story is alleged. So we don't know if the bomb claims are true, but something is a bit stinky in this story.
 
I have the distinct feeling that no matter the truth of what happened, this will be ugly....
 
And, as far as ammo, they use Speer Lawman 125 grain TMJ for practice and the Speer Gold Dot 125 grain GDHP (53918) for duty.

There is no doubt that the marshall's will be vilified for this, regardless of how well they responded. If it had been a bomb and they hadn't reacted as quickly, it'd be worse.

I just wish at least one agency rep would face down the media vultures and say "Well, he said he had a bomb, and reached into his bag. And he's dead. But what's better, that, or if he did have a bomb, seeing on the news a fireball destroying the plane and others nearby, maybe the terminal too, hundreds of innocent people dead?"

CNN is showing footage of certain bags being placed on the tarmac, planted with an explosive charge, and blown in place.

Three so far. CNN doesn't know how the bags were selected. Dogs? Manifest matched against the aggressor?
 
apparrently they used highly reduced charges, just to see if they could trigger a larger explosion within the bag. doesn't look like they succeeded. so the bags probably didn't contain bombs. there are scorch marks on the tarmac, but the bags appear to be largely intact.
 
Legislation is now being drawn up now that will require ALL airline passengers be properly medicated before being allowed thru airport security.

What will be the overall outcome of this whole ordeal?

My guess:
Lawsuit, Marshalls resign, public figures call for better training of Marshalls, no actual action on the matter taken

I certainly hope not. The Air Marshall did his job, and the moron off the meds, died of Suicide by Air Marshall. He didn't comply, he had his hand in a bag, what else could somebody have done.

I'll puke if the guy's wife sues.

fox is reporting that he is a citizen born in costa rica. they are also reporting that the wife was allegedly ACTIVELY warned the marshals that the man was harmless and need meds.

the wife part is pretty hearsay at this part. I imagine checking citizenship is easy enough.
 
The Foxnews anchor was quizzing the head of the FAM about the guns they carried saying over penetration could cause the plane to depressurize. The Director wouldn't discuss what was beiing used but said ti was designed not to pass through a suspect.

This anchor is asking some pretty lame questions but is backing the FAM.
 
would medium-caliber handgun hollowpoint even penetrate an airplane's hull in the FIRST place?

I doubt they're issuing glaser safety slugs. they just don't want to explain ballistics to an anti-gun press.
 
I'd like to see a news reporter interviewing one of the marshall's and when they ask him "What were your thoughts on this?" his reply would be " Well ma'am, my Glock fuctioned flawless, I do need to bring it back about a half inch to the right, and I'm going to back off my powder charge about .3 grains, a little heavy on the recoil."

Exactly. How is this any different than when a cop yells at a guy to get out of a car, and he dives down to dig under the seat instead?

Oh, good GOD, not that again!!!! :barf:

Even Smithsonian Air & Space magazine had an excellent article on that, as to exactly why that wouldn't do more than cause perhaps an annoying whistle until someone stuck any object over the hole. The plane's air system would just slightly close the outflow port (which is already a hole in the plane!) to compensate for any miniscule change in pressure. It would take a fuselage breach the size of a door to depressurize an aircraft.

Idiot reporters and their Hollywood "knowledge"...

Exactly. No difference, except the Air Marshalls are even more concerned that is a bomb that will kill dozens of people rather than a pistol which would be used to just kill the Police Officer.

Don't want to get shot? Don't say you have a bomb on a plane, and when confronted, don't reach for something in the place where you claimed to have a bomb.

ok, apparrantly the plane came from colombia, but the aggressor was boarding the plane IN MIAMI, headed for orlando.

he had arrived at the airport a few hours earlier from ecuador.
