Miami Vice guns (original series)

Didn't pay attention back then - I was 15. But I really liked the G-36Cs in the recent film. Maybe if Parker v. D.C. really goes our way I will finally be able to get one.

It was suppose to be a 10mm Bren Ten, but it didn't fire blanks very well, so soon thereafter, the Bren Ten morphed into a S&W 4506.

And as a side note, Miami Vice also but Galco's Jackass shoulder holster on the map as being "the" shoulder holster to have.

Tubbs had the cut-down Ithaca 37 shotgun and S&W Chiefs Special.

I had heard the shoulder holsters were Alessi. (His shop is close to my home).

For the first couple of seasons, Crockett supposedly had a Bren Ten but it was actually a blank-firing .45 ACP with a stainless or hard-chromed slide. Then they supplied Sonny with a Smith & Wesson 645, until the last season when they updated to a S&W 4506. I had always heard that Crockett's leather shoulder holster was a Galco, but that could be wrong.

Interesting thread. I actually have a S & W 645. Unlike most Smith semi-autos I've used this one actually works. :D

I love their revolvers, but have had mixed results with the semis. This one shoots well and functions well.

I bought it used, and the barrel was messed up, so I had the barrel replaced and now it's fine.

Magazines are still available for the gun, in fact I think the 4506 mags will work in them. Double action .45, stainless steel, I think I'll keep it.

A shoulder holster in Illinois is only good at Halloween.

No reason not to keep the 645 IMO because it's a good gun. Had one myself prior to my Great Financial Collapse of '06. And, yes, 4506/645 mags are one and the same.

1st Season

Sonny Crocket (Don Johnson) carried a Bren 10; it really was a Bren 10. A popular joke of the day was his was the only Bren in the world with magazines.

Rico Tubbs (Phillip Michael Thomas) carried a five shooter S&W Chief Special revolver and his back up gun was a sawed-off double barrel shotgun, a restricted weapon under the NFA.

The Bren had various problems and the political correctness squad had the vapours over the sawed off shotgun, so with the second season, Crockett carried a S&W autopistol and Tubbs carried a 'police only' Ithaca 37. Still a restricted weapon, but it didn't look made in a garage.

The boss, Martin Castillo (the excellent actor James Edward Olmos) carried a Colt Python.

Great show. It's not the way police work is really done, but it should be.

BTW, in the "pilot" movie for the series, Sonny carried a Sig P220 in 45acp. And regardless of wether his Bren was a 10mm or 45 (they never said in the show), he still must have been the only person who had more than one mag for a Bren pistol!

Aha. That's right, the Bren 10 only appeared in the first season.

The story I heard about the Bren Ten (which I can't seem to find now) was that it was supposed to be a 10mm according to the storyline, yes. But in actuality it had to be made with a .45 barrel in order to accomodate the widely-used 5-in-1 blanks. I also understand that one reason that the Bren Ten was eventually "fired" from the show was because some of those $100-$125 magazines kept disappearing from the set.

Crockett had the .45 blank firing Bren for the first 2 seasons, he didn't switch to the S&W til the third season. The only really good seasons were the first 2, when Crockett still had the black fake Ferrari Daytona Spyder. I remember an episode where Switek jumped out of a van with an M249, would vice cops really have access to such a weapon, lol.
