I'm moving further south in the great (and economically disadvantaged) state of Michigan and the closest range is in Bath. It's listed as a DNR shooting range and open to the public. I've only been to private clubs and ranges so I don't know what to expect from this range.

Can anyone tell me what the Rose Lake range is like or how public ranges compare to private? Thanks.

Rose Lake Range

My folks live in that area of Michigan and I've been shooting at that range a few times.

The range is fairly nice and well maintained, even if mainly setup for long arms. Rifles/Handguns at 25 yards, rifles at 50 and 100 yards, nice setup for shotguns/clays. The range is supervised during all open hours - usually by a DNR guy in the range tower.

Last two times I shot there I was the only shooter at the range. Of course, that may have had something to do with the rain.... BTW, the shooting benches are covered.

There are also a couple of private ranges in the area, and an indoor pistol range south of Lansing on M99.

Good luck

Capital City Rifle Club in Williamston is a very nice range. Figure out if it's close enough to you to become a member. If it is, I highly reccomend it.

www.ccrifleclub.org is the website.

If you ever find yourself in Lapeer, I highly reccomed you check out the Pit. Its a free range located a mile or so north of the drag strip. Its an 85 yard free range on state land that people have been shooting at for 60 years, and yes its legal.

Its always very full of shooters, and it seems like full auto's show up almost every time I go there. People come from all around the lower peninsula to shoot there.

Please be advised that removing more trash than you arrived with is practicing good range hygeine. Get some Contractor grade trash bags and help reduce the overburden. :uhoh:
