Midway USA too expensive

Midwqay has a clip of their shipping operation, sheesh...

No wonder their shipping rates are so dang high. An unbelievable amount of mechanization. I bet their profit margins sure look nice though. I try to not buy from midway solely because of their outraaaaaageous shipping & handling rates. I asked why they do not offer flat rate shipping and the disembodied voice simply said becasue we don't. Good store + bad policies= no sale to me, sorry.

IMHO Midway runs a class act, except for their shipping department. Every order I have received has experienced some outer package damage. Last order they threw six surplus ammo cans on top of about 20 plastic ammo boxes. One plastic box arrived shattered. When I sent two e-mails both were ignored. Perhaps success is affecting customer service.

I love midway, but they are not the only place I order from. I looked yesterday I placed an order for bullets. I looked at the exact order from midway, grafs, and Mid South. I ordered from Mid South because they were a good $10 cheaper on my order.

I have never had an order from midway get the wrong stuff in it. Packing can be a bit goofy sometimes. I had a box of 500 200 gr 45acp bullets packed on top of 5 boxes of Ely TenX once ended up with 2 boxes crushed. Other than that one time no problems.

IMO, if Brownells got their website in order (as well as integrate the Sinclair products), they'd crush Midway. Midway's great website is losing its luster since it is one of the slowest.

Just spent over $200 on misc. AR-15 parts... got them from Brownells. The time spent searching offset the time waiting for a Midway page to load.

MidwayUSA's shipping and website speed

I agree with so many high road'ers that Midway's shipping is too high. I always play with various items and quantities in my 'cart' and, many times, find that shipping charges can be manipulated to get much more for about the same shipping fee. I really don't think I should have to do that just to get the shipping at a reasonable rate.
Their professionalism with order handling is 1st rate, however, and I've never had anything broken or wrong items shipped or missing. I really watch to make sure that everything that is on my order is "In Stock" otherwise I get hit with an exorbadent 2nd shipping charge as each "Out of Stock" item comes in.
The MiwayUSA website seems to get slower and slower but the upside is that any item can be found with (usually) a single 'Search'. Midsouth Shooting Supply's website is less user-friendly and - most of the time - the search comes up empty 'cause I've not typed in the exact way that they have chossen to describe it. The search is slightly faster that MidwayUSA's however.
In closing - I shop MidwayUSA a lot due to their great inventory and reasonable prices (not incl. S&H). That certainly doesn't stop me from looking elsewhere for better prices. I found Natchez to be $65 cheaper for my Hornady L-N-L AP Progressive press and then save $5 more in S&H!

I love Midway for some things and dislike them for others. I have ordered thousands of dollars of mechandise from them and I can make honest observations and conclusions.

Shipping is way to expensive especially because some of the items are poorly packed. I find this troubling because you are paying a premium for their shipping and it stinks.

I ordered 10 used 20mm ammo cans for storage. I ordered 10 dessicant packs to use in the cans. My 2 boxes of cans arrived poking through the shipping box and guess what?? The dessicant packs were NOT packed in the cans! As you might guess, the dessicant packs were destroyed. How does that service rate for expensive packing prices??

Love the reviews and selection. Hate the slow web pages and overpriced packing.

It's not like the old days, compairson shopping is just a click or two away.

I just got thru ordering a few items. I checked around and did not get them from Midway because they were out of stock on 3 things. In this era of extremely LOW interest rates, the cost of inventory is also LOW.
I comparison shop. Whoever has what I want for either the lowest, or a very comparable, total cost (including shipping), gets my business. Tonight, Brownell's $4.75 shipping sealed the deal. I tend to support Midway and the others who supprort the NRA, when they do not make me feel I am making them rich in the process.

I've spent probably close to 900 at midway, returned one scope with no questions or hassles. All my orders have been fast w/no missing items. Cust svc has been excellent, had one order that duplicated a $15 item once without charging me, I called them and they said keep it.

Yeah shipping is based on dollar amount but like others have said just comparision shop and you'll always get the best deal. It does take some
time but thats the good thing about the wishlist and spreadsheets lol

midway=rip off

I ordered the correct part number and they shipped the wrong thing. They tell me ship it back we will credit you well no credit and then charge me shipping again for my stuff a total of $24.48 more than what I should have paid to start with. Well I fixed them one call to the credit card company and they extracted my money back as a dispute and I shipped their stuff back c.o.d. I guess they took it as they have not sent it back.

Each of these companies has merit and pitfalls. Some have the inventory and others do not. I like midway, but agree that the shipping cost can be cheaper and would attract more customers. For several years I was a total midway fan. In the last year I have expanded my horizons and use grafs, midsouth, and Natchez. All are good companies.

I don't Call it Whining!

I'm not sure it's whining when members are sharing their experiences and their opinions why one vendor isn't as good as another - or as they once were.

I've bought from Midway for more years than I can count, and have seen the changes. :barf:

Their website is so very slow that this reason alone has caused me to cancel orders while they're processing, open another window, and order from somebody else simply becuase prices were close but web speed was better :banghead: I've told them about it several times but when I get answers, they're nonsensical.

I have a dealer's license and will admit that I get miffed when they sell items at special prices BELOW what they will sell them to me - like when they sell Blems on bullets at half off, the retail price is lower than the dealer price - :eek:and that is simply stupid - so I order then through my retail account.:fire:

The shipping has taken them way out of line - and yes, their prices simply aren't the great deals that they used to be. I'll give them credit for being a very good online reference, but low marks on actual performance.:( I know that for people that don't order often or don't pay attention, there's an ugly surprise when you get whacked for that second shipping fee when they're out of stock on one item you ordered:what:

All in all, they get maybe 20% of the business I did with them 5 years ago. As a business, they seem to have lost track of what makes them successful, and aren't listening enough to their customers.

I'm a loyal Midway customer, although if what I want is out of stock I may turn to Grafs.

Their service is excellent and helpful, their website is better than most, I enjoy their magazine, they donate large amounts to the NRA, and I get whatever I order within about 2 days. If I have to pay a little more shipping for that... I'm cheap, but not that cheap.

I recently bought a pellet rifle from Midway, but first compared it with Midsouth. Midsouth was actually cheaper, but with shipping tagged on, it was more. I bought from Midway.
Moral of the story - shop around. However, I don't mind paying a couple of bucks more for their selection, prompt service and excellent website.

I just placed an order with Midway a couple of days ago. Due to a computer glitch on my end, I couldn't access their website, so I called instead.

I was EXTREMELY impressed by their customer service! The rep who served me made suggestions on bullets that actually saved me money. Also, I had a few questions, and he very quickly found answers for me.

When I've LEARNED more about reloading, perhaps it'll be worthwhile for me to shop someplace cheaper. But, for right now, Midway's SERVICE is worth paying a little more for.

YMMV

Midway's a great company and I'll always do business with them . . . .that being said I recently wanted to upgrade to an RCBS Pro-Melt furnace and it was $40 cheaper ordering it from Grafs by the time you figured in shipping . ..that's serious bucks on a $300 order and I Grafs threw in a free Speer reloading manual on top . . . .

Just my .02

Dave

free shipping

Midway had free shipping on all orders over 25 bucks, that was when they frist got into it,a million years a go,
I delt with them for a long time.seems that they always had what i wanted,
I wished they change a few things,, One i like to see,, is if they dont have it,they should send it shipping free when they get it in,I had ordered 7mm rem, they were sold out, they didnt know when they would get them in,well the price was right so i said i want them ,send them,, well i got sticker shock when i did get them,,,hell shipping was almost more then the cost of them 100 remington 140 gr,pointed soft poits they had on sale,,,,
But i wil still order items that i cant get at the local gander mountian, now i wont order powder or primmers,i;ll buy that local.but most everything else i'll order from them.I did price at bass pro on just normal bullet tips. stuff u see for 15 or 16 bucks in midawy, basspro wanted 22 -25 bucks, more sticker shock,
thanks for the business,

Midway is my last resort now a days. as the shipping is outrageous. Cabelas is always the first place i look

I noticed one thing about my last Midway order that really struck me: when the option to ship USPS 1st class is available, that's what I choose, and it's always cheaper than UPS Ground and (the best part) the order always arrives sooner, sometime 2-3 days sooner. What I don't understand is why only some items are offered with USPS shipping and other not. Still, get used to it folks. As fuel prices continue to rise (we ain't seen nuthin' yet), mail order companies will find it more difficult ship affordably. When diesel hits $10/gallon, these companies are going to be in deep kimchee.

MidwayFinland, Winc.Black Shadow 1300 pistolgrip $ 39 + expences. MidwayUSA $ 18.
Midway is **** shop.

Thanks for the Links

I didn't know about some of the other reloading suppliers. Just checked the prices on an order I have been putting together on midway and compared them to the other sites. All but a few items are cheaper elsewhere but it appears Midsouth is going to get my business. Thanks for the links and for saving me money.

BTW, I am still saving money even when i used the Midway promotional offer of $15 off.
