Ok, most of us know that .223 is the civilian 5.56. .223 is safe to shoot in 5.56 but 5.56 might not be such a good idea in a .223.

We also know that 7.62X51 is the military .308. However, after doing a little research, I found that its a bit uncertain if the two rounds are safe to mix. Can anyone set this straight?

Are there any-other Military rounds with civilan rounds out there?

From what I understand, firing military-spec 7.62x51 ammo in a .308 gun will only be a problem if the gun has a tight match chamber.

Lessee...

7.62x51mm NATO: .308 Winchester
5.56x45mm NATO: .223 Remington
12.7x99mm NATO: .50 Browning

Heck...those are about the only current Western military rounds, if you disclude pistol rounds.
