OK, most everyone knows by now I am no Taurus fan. But I am tired of waiting for Kahr to get their affairs in order. I love my Witness COmpact 10mm, but it is as large as many full-size 9mm/.40's and, more often than not, heavier. It can be taxing to carry this critter all day, every day. I consider .45 ACP to be plenty adequate for SD, if not a bit lacking compared to 10mm. I have considered a Para C-6 LDA, but it is still not light and just as tall as my Witness. So, my questions regarding the PT145:

Reliability: MRBS? Must be at least 200.

Flexibility: will it shoot a variety of ammunition well?

Accuracy: SD range; 7-25 feet.

Durability: Will this critter hold up to +P ammunition?

Reliability: Have several hundred rounds with no failures

Flexibility: Have shot several different load both FMJ and Hollow Points with no problems or failures

Accuracy: 7-25 feet. Mine seems to be very accurate

Durability: Will this critter hold up to +P ammunition? Have not shot +P but have heard other have with no problems. Don't think Taurus recommends +P

Good pistol but not+P try the new 160grDPX Corbon compact round Not +P but close up will work fine I use now in my Para P-10 for carry 1050fps and 390ft lbs. if your into numbers. In jell test 12"and .75 expansion

I have had my PT-145 Millennium Pro (new model with light rail) for almost a year and have had zero malfunctions in almost 800 rounds. The trigger pull has become buttery smooth and will feed anything I can stuff into the magazine. It was bought as a BUG to my 1911's but has become my anywhere/anytime gun. I am never without it.

Here is the last target shot with 230gr. Federal HydraShoks at 15 yards.

My wife and I have a Millennium and a Millennium Pro, both in .45. We have a handfull of mags and have shot all kinds of standard velocity ammo through both with no malfs, except when using a 12 round 24/7 mag with anything other than 230 grain FMC (truncated cone) ammo. The ammo seems to nose-dive in the mag with the 12 rounder. Using the standard mags we can shoot 180's or 230's in HP or FMC or FMJ. I have fired a few +P rounds, but not a large number with no obvious ill effects to the guns.

Re: reliability, flexibility, and accuracy I think the PT145 is a real value.

Good shootin'....

Dude, there must have been at least 15 or 20 threads on the Millenium series of pistols and the PT-145s over the past few months here ...

My wife spotted one at a gun show over a year ago and said, "Hey, I'm a Taurus; can I get this one?" She never liked shooting .45s before, but she loves the PT-145. This thing has been stone reliable for more than 2000 rounds; never a hiccup. It's shot, flawlessly, at least ten different loads including 185 to 230 grain JHPs of every stripe. Aside from the trigger, which is long and a bit sproingy at first (definitely takes getting used to, but smooths out considerably after a couple hundred rounds), the thing I really appreciate about this pistol is its remarkable accuracy. Simply put, our 145 is very accurate. I also like the big dot front side, the wide slot on the rear sight and the extremely light weight. Then the added advantage of a frame-mounted safety is there as well ...

I'm a dedicated 1911 guy, carry nothing but -- but I think the Taurus Millenium series beat the heck out of any Glocks I've owned and are simply a better deal than those overpriced boat anchors Kahr markets. 10+1 of .45 ACP plus a small, controllable and lightweight package? Great deal, in my book.

As far +P -- this is from the manual...

Taurus pistols were designed to use cartridges loaded to the limits shown
below. Other cartridges of various types or bullet weights may or may not
function acceptably; such ammunition should be thoroughly tested by the
user before relying on it. Because of the widely differing specifications of
such other ammunition, Taurus cannot be responsible for malfunctions
resulting from its use.

BULLET---------------------------MUZZLE
CALIBER---------------WEIGHT----VELOCITY
.32 ACP..............71 GR FMP---905 FPS
.380 ACP.............95 GR FMJ--1000 FPS
9MMPARA. ...........124 GR FMJ--1225 FPS
.357 SIG ...........125 GR FMJ--1350 FPS
.40 S&W ............180 GR FMJ---985 FPS
.45 ACP.............225 GR FMJ---900 FPS
GR = grains
FMJ = Full metal jacketed bullet
FPS = Feet per second

“Plus-P’, “PIus-P-Plus” or other ultra or high velocity ammunition generates
pressures significantly in excess of the pressures associated with standard
ammunition. Such pressures may affect the useful life of the firearm or
exceed the margin of safety built into many pistols and could therefore be
DANGEROUS.

I have the non-pro.....the plain jane PT145
Its a champ. I've fed it wolf, wwb, and federal JHP's. It has eaten all the above without a hiccup.
Accuracy is decent. Enough to shoot fast at close range and get hits where they count. Its not a comfortable shooter, but most little .45's aren't.
The trigger sucks. Long pull.
As a CCW SD piece, its a great pick. Would also make a great BUG.

Mine has somewhere around 500 rounds, btw. No problems yet. I've even shot it dirty, without cleaning the CCW lint and dust out...nary a problem.

MachIVshooter,

As you have probably figured out by now, the Pro version is the one to get. I have an '02 Pt-145 and it is at TI being fixed again. Twice the grip assembly has cracked (No +p), the plastic/polymer holding the trigger assembly broke thus jamming the trigger reset, and the magazine drops too easily.

I have hear very few degrogatory remarks about the PROs and I intend to get one. I will say this. MY PT145 has a smooth trigger, 2,500+ rounds later, and I can shoot it very well but it will not be my carry weapon until it has proven itself to me, again.

TI received it September 9. Has not returned as of yet.

As for ammo, I carry Taurus' 185 gr. Copper Bullet. I believe it expands at rather low velocity and control of the pistol is solid. If you want more zip, the 160gr Corbon DPX is standard pressure but hits 1,000+ fps out of a 3" barrel, as I recall.

Re:pt145

Take a look at the PT745, the single stack version of the PT145. It's 6+1, like the soon to be Kahr P45, weighs about 22oz loaed, which is 2 oz more than the Kahr and they are each about 1.0" in thickness. The PT745 is a tad shorter in the grip height too when compared to the P45, by comparing the specs.

I switched to the PT745 for summer carry because it's lighter and thinner-easier to conceal, at least for me (had a PT145, which was great too but thicker and heavier) and I use Win Ranger RA45T for carry, I don't see the need for a +p round in .45ACP. The velocity of the RA45T is just under 800fps (797 or something like that) from the Defender 3" barrel, so it should be slightly better from the 3.25" PT745 barrel. The PT745 is plenty accurate out to at least 12-15yds, for CCW (I can keep all shots in the 9 and 10 ring of a B25 target at 8yds). I've tried Wolff, WWB, and Ranger ammo and never had a problem of any kind.

And the stainless version of the PT745 is about 1/2 the cost of the Kahr P45 :D

I've had my PT-145 Millennium Pro for over 2 yrs now, and am completely satisfied with it. Initially had a few FTFs before the gun was broken in, but they were cured by a light application of Brian Enos' "Slide Glide" on the rails. It'll now feed anything dry. Have put about 2,000 rds through it. It's compact, accurate, holds 10 rds of .45 ACP. What's not to like? The only "problem" I've had with it is that recently the front sight screw stated to loosen. I tightened it.

IMHO, you're far better off with the 10-shot 145 than with the 7-shot 745. The difference in size and weight just isn't that significant. ;)
