Washington, DC - Michael Barnes, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March, issued the following statement commending Senator John Kerry and Representative Dennis Kucinich's comments on gun issues in Sunday's presidential debate:

"Senator John Kerry and Representative Dennis Kucinich demonstrated very strongly last night at the Democratic debates that candidates need to show they won't stand for the extremist gun lobby's assault on America's basic gun safety protections. I want to commend the two candidates for using their concluding remarks to call attention to the radical efforts being pursued by the extreme gun lobby right now in our nation's capitol. The gun lobby's push to end the ban on assault weapons and to secure sweeping legal immunity for the gun industry are shameful and should be stopped."

"The ban on assault weapons will expire next year if the president and Congress fail to act. An overwhelming majority of Americans want to keep AK-47s and UZIs off our streets and out of our neighborhoods. Candidates for public office should stand with the majority of Americans for sensible safety protections. America's families need leaders who will fight the gun lobby's radical agenda. Thank you, Senator Kerry and Representative Kucinich, for standing with the American people."

Following are excerpts of the concluding remarks made by the two candidates in last night's Democratic Presidential Debate in Detroit:

Senator Kerry: "There's a front-page story in today's Washington Post that says that Democrats are going to try to run away from the issue of gun safety.

"I don't think that we can get elected nationally if we are not prepared to stand up against powerful special interests and make it clear that, whether it's the NRA or any other special interest, we're prepared to stand for our principles.

"All across this country, we have too many people who die each year from guns. So let me make it plain: I am for the assault weapons ban. I'm for the Brady Bill. I'm for making sure we stand up for gun safety in this country. We cannot be a party that retreats in an effort to try to court votes and not save lives."

Representative Kucinich: "This afternoon I met with a group of Detroit area activists who are called "To Save Our Sons and Daughters. Their sons and daughters had experienced death by great violence, usually by guns. And in the union hall where we met, there were pictures of the children spread across card tables and what they called me there to talk to me about is the war at home. The war at home.

"We have weapons of mass destruction we have to address here at home. And we need to address these problems here in our cities, and that's what my candidacy for President is all about."

Did anyone really think that wooing the gunowners was really a long-term strategy for the donkey party? Kerry wooed the rube "hunters" in several midwestern states so that he could get the delegates. Surprise :uhoh:

Kerry indicts himself on his own "gun safety" page, with a blatant reference to the Brady campaign, and since the Brady's, the MMM, and Ted Kennedy are all one big happy family, there's no shocker there.

There's no way any gunowner can plausibly support Kerry.

Voted to Ban Military-Style Assault Weapons in the United States – John Kerry strongly supports the current ban on assault weapons and voted to restrict the manufacturing, transfer or possession of these weapons in the United States—including AK-47’s and similar weapons used by terrorists in Afghanistan. Kerry voted for the “Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act†which banned military-style assault weapons. Additionally, the ban on assault weapons was supported by virtually every national law enforcement organization in the United States. [Senate Roll Call vote, 1993 #375; BradyCampaign.org]

On the Assault Weapons Ban

"I want to recognize the leadership of Senator Feinstein and Senator Hatch for their efforts to combat gang violence…I also want to express my admiration for the Senator from California for her leadership on the assault weapons ban, both in her courageous efforts to pass it through Congress and her tenacity in stopping efforts to repeal it." Floor Statement, April 24, 1996

Man, those Taliban guys must have been really stupid, coming all the way over to the U.S. to spend several hundred dollars for a rifle they could have gotten for something like $40 in a market in Afghanistan. Hey, I've got some 9mm rounds lying around. I'll sell them for ten dollars a round! Come and get 'em!

The [we wannabe a] Million Moron Mommies endorse Kerry?

That's all I need to know.

What's the next surprise headline - "Illegal Aliens Don't Like Pat Buchanan"?

You would be surprised how many gun owners are going to vote for Kerry out of supposed ignorance of his stance on guns.

Headline: "Hugh Heffner admits to being a raving heterosexual!"

The Million Mom March had quote "about four people showed up to the event" a few months ago. It was posted on www.awbansunset.com this has happened to them many times. Their meet-up forum only has maybe two hundred (being generous here) actual members, the rest are gun owners that snuck in.

Actually I think a LOT of people are going to vote for John Kerry out of displeasure with George Bush rather than agreement with Kerry, and once they see what kind of President they have given our country, they will regret it.

That's just my opinion.

Just "demon"strating their complete lack of credibility...
I can buy AK's or Uzis by the crate right now. All legal.
What a bunch of bull-oney
Candidates should stand UP for the Constitution and imploy logic as their weapon of choice.
ps: Please be careful what you say about A.G. - after all we are in the domain invented by HIM. :what: :neener:
Gore has become a bigger joke than he ever imagined. I can hear Tipper nagging HIM right now... "Well, if you weren't such a JOKE maybe we'd...."

Nope - I better not go there:evil:

Edited to add:
Matter of fact - I've been wanting an AK - I do believe I'll get one next month!
:p

Are the Gun owner "Bush Bashers" going to bash themselves if their tactics succeed in putting Kerry in the Whitehouse? The answer is "NO", they will never admit their mistake even as "President Kerry" strips them of even more gunrights. They are not as "pro-gun" as they are "anti-government" Their "black helicopter" mentality can poison us all if we let it. If we don't get Bush next time, we get a skinny Ted Kennedy.

Kentucky Bucky: Some of us refuse to vote for those who go out of their way to destroy the constitution, so stop your "if you do not vote Bush you will loose your guns" retoric. I am no conservative, and neither is Bush. Republicans will loose one way (loosing elections) or the other (doing what the other side would do) with their "vote for us or else you will really be sorry" tactics.

Well, I am in complete despair.

George Bush, I think, has been horrible for our civil rights. The Patriot Act was a huge mistake; Iraq was a huge mistake; Faith-Based Initiatives is horrible. No Child Left Behind is a disaster, and he's spending us into a huge national debt.

And on gun rights, he's been pretty damn quiet.

I am very tempted to join the "ABB" (Anybody But Bush) bandwagon.

But it's not like we're going to see a Libertarian victory.

And it looks like the Dems will nominate Kerry, who wants to keep eroding my Second Amendment rights (Not that Dean, or Clark, or any of the rest would do any different), raise my taxes and distribute my money to a bunch of failed programs (and a few good ones).

So do I favor Bush's police state or Kerry's nanny state?

It's a choice between a rock and a hard place.

Honestly, I am out of ideas. I don't know which I'd hate more.

I have a feeling

Bush will get some pro guns judges in the courts,if given a few more years.
So unless AWB fails to sunset,he is certainly getting my vote!

If however we get stuck with AWB then forget it,I start getting guns and BOB together and pray.

On the lighter side...
From what I have been reading, the ranks of the Million Moron Mommys has shrunk down to just a few thousand now-days.
Looks like it will run out of gas and grind to a halt soon, hopefully.

Is anybody shocked by this? He's another proponent of the "hunting" theory of the 2nd amendment.
