(No Mini-14 bashing please. Take it as a given that I've heard it already.)

I picked up a Promag 10 round magazine for the Mini-14 yesterday.

When I got it home and looked at it closely, I was surprised how similar it was to the factory 5 round magazine. No logo, of course, but the follower is the same, the plate the spring bears on is almost the same (plastic not metal), the baseplate looks the same. And, glory be!, it looks like the bolt will actually lock open on an empty magazine.

Is Promag the OEM for Ruger Min-14 magazines?

No. If you look at the Promag closely, it is made much cheaper than the factory Rugers. The 10 rounders are okay. But, they really only hold eight if you want to insert it into a rifle with a closed bolt. The followers also tend to bind on the sides of the mag. And, Promag coats them with this white greasy crap on the insides.

I spoke to the President. He is trying to be the OEM. He will need to improve the quality first. I think Ruger makes their own mags. I could be wrong.

I seem to very vaguely recall that it is/was PMI (that's Precision Mag Industries, not to be confused with Pro Mag Industries).
