Hello all, Had a quick yes or no question:

Will a 581 series mini-14 ranch rifle (current production model) fit in one of those old school factory folding stocks (think the ones from the A-Team).

I have heard that there are some dimensional differences between the old mini-14 receivers (the ones tailored to this stock) and the current production receivers... If anything I figure a steady hand with a file/dremel tool :uhoh: would do the job (would like to avoid that option because those factory folders are PRICEY.

Thanks for your input.

I would go with a Butler Creek folder if I was going that route. Still a poorer cheek weld than factory fixed stock.

Good Luck

Folding Stocks for the Mini 14 Ranch

Butler folding stocks are made very well and will only fit the 180 Series mini 14 ranch rifles. they will not fit the 581 series mini 14 ranch rifle. I have the Stainless butler folding stock on my 181 series mini 14 ranch and I would recommend this stock to everyone who wants a nice folding stock it looks awesome and it is made to last a life time, but butler went out of business and if you can find one you should buy it you won't be disappointed... and for the 581 series mini 14 ranch rifle the only folding stock i could find was the ATI Rug 2200 which is also made in the good ol USA its made very well and looks nice too....I hope someone will get something out of this Thanks for reading this..... I didn't know that....

I had one on a 10-22 that worked fairly well.

What's the difference in receivers? They made the changes after I went to armourer's school.

Sorry, I think you are mistaken.

Midwayusa has Butler Creek folders that they claim fit Mini-14 models 181 to present. Some have to trim the stock a bit to fit the trigger group, but otherwise they work fine. It's the older 180s they won't fit.

Why ruin a good set-up?

I don't see it like that... The 581 series is in my opinion better that the older mini-14s in terms of quality and accuracy... plus I really like the winged front sight & ghost ring rear sight.

I just love the look of the original factory folder's they have a sort of elegance & classic look that no other mini-14 stock has been able to match. Plus I really like how it folds, it is way more compact than anything else & just looks all-around badass.

I have looked at the butler creek stocks & I am not very fond of them at all (I detest polymer stocks & the wire folder looks crappy). I currently have an ATI folder, which is functional but it makes the mini look like a "wanna be" AR-15 plus it's a polymer & it just feels cheesy.

Anyways if I cant get the real deal for a reasonable price then I will just butcher a standard wood mini-14 stock, buy whatever factory folder parts that I can get ahold of & try and replicate one.

I agree that the factory wood stocks are good looking. Finding one is another story. They are out there but command a premium price. I saw one on ebay a couple of weeks ago that went for a little over $500.00. I happen to own two factory folding Minis. One is an unfired 184xxx series that had belonged to a friend of mine that passed a while back. It was a sentimental buy. I also have a 181xxx series Mini that is blued mounted in a stainless wood folder stock. That one is chopped to 12" with a Masen combo brake permanetly attached. I also have a 186xxx Mini mounted in an ATI stock. The newer Minis will fit in the old wooden folder stiocks with a little inletting done on the wood. I have seen it done. Don't give up on your quest. Just be patient and one will come your way. Check over at Perfect Union board. Sometimes one will come up there.......................................Joe
