mini 14 or mini 30 ?

I had a mini-14 when they first came out, scoped it, loved it. It shot MOA from day 1. I had the chance to sell it for more than I paid, done deal. Bought Rem. 788 bolt rifle in .223, best deal I ever made! This rifle shoots sub MOA, glad I sold the mini-14. Good rifle though!

I picked up a mini in 6.8 SPC just a short time ago, it must have been one of the last ones made. I picked the 6.8 after concluding that the .223 was only truely effective out of a loooooooong barrel and there were enough reported troubles of the 7.62x39 ammo not agreeing with the Mini. Although I know that many Mini 30 owners have never had a problem and are completely satisfied. In the end, I didn't want to worry about the 7.62x39 so I went for the 6.8. The 6.8, IMHO, is just a better designed cartridge. Besides, any non-plinking ammo is going to be expensive.

Now for my buyer's remorse:( Because I live in Alaska, I have a horrible selection of ammo and getting it shipped up here is a PITA. This summer has been so busy, I haven't even fired it yet :fire::banghead::(:(

Looks like I'll have to start reloading unless someone talks me into selling it.

Reload for it, that is what I do for my 30. It always lights off my reloads, now if I just took time to see if I could tailor a load to help the accuracy....

Back in the day I was issued a Mini 14. I liked it and as a result I bought a Mini 30 when it came out so I could hunt deer with it. It still kills deer and I have been happy with it. However, I bought it to kill deer not as a range commando rifle. I understand the newer Minis are more accurate and they now have a tactical Mini 30 which gets good reviews.

BTW, I ditched the scope and put a Tech Sight on my 30 and it makes the rifle much better.
