I like the sights on the mini and follow up shots are super easy. I'm not surprised she shot it faster.

The M4 looks too new, I'm sure it was shot recently. He's probably just more familiar with the old ban than the proposed legislation.

She didn't even use the sights.

Of course, the video's main point is still valid: "assault weapons" perform exactly the same as "non-assault weapons".

However, they shouldn't ask "What is an assault rifle?" at the beginning of the video if they go on to compare two semi-autos. Lately, I've noticed an increased tendency to apply the term "assault rifle" to so-called "assault weapons", even on well-known youtube gun channels.

I think it's very important to stick to the correct terminology:
assault rifle = technical term for a select-fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge
assault weapon = political term for a gun with certain cosmetic features that supposedly make it worth banning

By the way, they made another video to address magazine capacity:

Re: Dave,
I had an older version of the Mini-14 and here is what I found.
I micked the barrel and found it had high and low places in it.
I could not believe it was so uneven.
I decided to accurize it.
I removed the barrel and shaved the barrel to an even finish.
I then made a alum. sleeve that was a press fit.
I threaded the barrel to 1/2-28 for a flash hider.
I chilled the barrel to 40 degrees.
I heated the sleeve to 300 degrees.
I coated the barrel with anti seeze and then dropped the sleeve onto the barrel.
When the sleeve cooled it locked itself in place.
The Mini 14 was a tack driver after that. There was no more barrel bending when it got hot.
Of course I had to put a scope on it after removing the welded front sight.
The new Mini's, I don't know about, but the old ones really acted up when they got hot.

I use a JP trigger/hammer on two of my ARs. There's no creep, no overtravel, and 2.5# trigger pull. Has a really short reset. I don't believe the same person shooting one of my so-equipped ARs would shoot a mini anything faster than they could shoot one of my ARs.

Besides, my ARs are better than minute-of-basketball accurate, while most Minis aren't

Yep. Ruger will not sell a firing pin as a part. I have both the Mini 14 and 30. I really dislike the fact I cannot buy EVERY part in it as an individual.
Way back when I bought them if I'd have known that I'd have passed.

I eventually sold my 183 series Mini-14 and bought a Colt Sporter Target (AR15 pattern) rifle. The POA/POI relationship on the Mini-14 walked as the barrel heated. No such problem with the Colt.

I read an article that claimed the earlier production Mini-14 rifles had the barrels coutoured too quickly, which locked stress into them that was released unevenly as they heated up.

Wow, can you say total BS video? The fact that a woman shot a Mini 14 faster than an AR makes it just as lethal as a "assault rifle". The sheriff's deputy should be ashamed of himself for passing out that nonsense.

Yes, they string vertically and go from printing large groups to patterning. Horrid barrel whip.

Your barrel sleeve solution was one way. A true heavy barrel and new gas block is another. I chose option #3; turn the whip into a stub:

16.1" at the end of the welded flash hider. It went from 3+ MOA to averaging 1.5-2 MOA, and it doesn't string.

They will just ban the Mini-14. I'd keep it under your hat.

I do not think this is the way to go.

It is defeatist and, IF they get to banning things (they won't, not anytime soon), it will only delay banning the Mini, not prevent it. Along with making the first ban even easier to get passed.

Won't do anything to publicize it. Asking if it makes sense that a pistol grip, flash suppressor, etc makes it banned, is presuming that the "banners" have any sense. They not listening to reason, folks, they're just scared and banning anything that might be shot at them later.

I agree.

If by later you mean when it becomes crystal clear to more people that gun control isn't about guns, but about CONTROL. They are afraid of armed citizens who are independent and who are capable of resisting a tyrannical government.

I nearly bought one of the Tac Minis right before Christmas..kick kick. Course now I couldnt find any bullets to go in it. There is no rest for the wicked huh?
