I'm looking for a Compact, Subcompact Night Stand pistol. (My night stand is tiny)

Criteria: Chambered in .45ACP.

What would you choose and why.

Hmmm, how small is subcompact??
I'd say take a good look at the G30: reliable, accurate, easy to clean & maintain, standard mags hold ten rounds of .45 ACP comfort, etc.... I hear stories about reliability problems with barrels much shorter than the G30's four inches... And FWIW, I'd be tempted to get a snub Smith K frame .357 over a tiny 6 shot .45, but of course that's just me-- I'm a bit old fashioned and like Smith revolvers ;)...

My P245 has been 100% from day one, shoots as well as it's big brother and is generally a very find small .45.

Drawbacks are the grip and capacity It is very short and although it fits my small hands I can see how many people would not like the feel of the grip. Capacity is also only 6+1 with the standard magazines.

Now if you need more than 7 rounds of .45 I am thinking you simply need a bigger nightstand for a bigger or more guns. :D

I love SIGs and I do think the P245 is one of the best small .45s there is but make sure you try before you buy because this is kind of SIGs red headed step child and it doesn't seem to fit many people well.

The Glock 30 is probably the best all around choice. 11 rounds, tiny, reliable, inexpensive, good finish etc.

Tiberous....

Well the night stand has the following on it already.

1. Sony Viao Laptop
2. Alarm Clock
3. Halogen light
4. Portable Trunk Scanner.
5. Surefire
6. Benchmade.

:) Its pretty darn cluttered. So the smaller the better. :)

45R, I would ditch some of that stuff you have on the night stand and put a full size on the night stand. For me they are much easier to handle.

:) One has to appreciate responsible gun owners.
(My night stand is tiny)
Non- gun owners would get a bigger nightstand, however being a responsible gunowner myself, and one whom uses a full size 1911 also, I see this as a NEED for Commander sized 1911. Incorporating good taste, with firearms with same MOA, same mags/ammo. Oh, Doubles as BUG also:D

FWIW, my nightstand is small, full size 1911, extra mag, extra knife, lamp, alarm clock/radio.

The SIG P239 won't take up too much room. The P239 comes in 9mm and .40S&W/357SIG.

Kahrs are very compact.

Good luck,
Rich

I've got a Glock 36 that has worked okay so far. But it's not really all that much smaller than my USPc...maybe the grip is a tad shorter but it's still a gun w/ some girth. At that point, I'd go w/ a USPc 45 ;)

Put a drawer under your night stand and put a good pistol or revolver in it!
If something should wake you from a deep sleep and you go grabbing for your firearm you will know exactly where to find it. If you should be startled and go grabbing and groping all of the stuff on the top of the night stand will be on the floor but by then you should be awake enough to get your pistol, you could also put a pump gun or any other wepon under the bed.

I would recommend the Smith & Wesson 457 or CS45. Having a safety isn't a bad thing when startled in the middle of REM sleep. They are both handguns chambered in .45acp. The prices are decent. I own or have owned the 9mm equivelant of both, and found them to be excellent guns. I especially like stainless or hard chromed guns for night use. Not very tactical, but I want the bad guy to see my shiney muzzle a split second before the flash. Kind of similar in it's attributes to the rack of a shotgun in the dark.

I use the same Browning P35 9mm for nightstand gun as for carry. I'd grab it first, but then I'd go for the Winchester 1894 30/30 in the closet.

Fobus makes a neet-o system for mounting a gun pretty much anywhere. click here

Just buy one (and a Roto holster), bolt it under the tiny nightstand and use a full size .45

I do not feel comfortable to put my gun in such an obvious place-and I sleep light! How big is your floor? Maybe a Remington 870 will fit. It is well fit for defensive purposes, even with little training.

The smaller the gun, the more training is generally necessary. By the way, a new night stand would be a fraction of the cost of a gun, if you insist on it. Your life is worth it to you, isn't it?!

Wow! That is a full night stand!

At one point in my life I was using a futon on the floor and a beat up dumpster dived coffee table as my headboard-night stand. I wanted a piece nearby, but not obvious.
I screwed an old belt slide holster to the under side of the coffee table and could then put ANY of my 1911's, my CZ-75 or BHP there(Alas, these two fine nines were sacraficed on the alter of post-divorce-financial crunch), easily within reach. I liked it so much I added another holster under the table...for a guest, or a new york reload!
A belt slide attached to the side of your night stand partially hidden by the bed may serve a similar purpose ,be concealed, have a decent piece in the same position. The fobus rig mentioned above would do the job too!
Suppose you could get a fobus slide, and a mag pouch-surefire holder and all your gear handy without crowding the top of your night stand!
I like the mini 45's. The previously mentioned Sig 245 and Glock mini's are great. I like the Para LDA, and Colt Officer's model. I am sure the Colt Defender would do. I like the idea of the Kimber CDP line, and have a friend that has had no problems with his....but I have read of some problems with the MIM parts...so I am not certain on this issue. Never owned one myself! Yet!
But for me, the mini's are carry...I leave the government at home by the bed! Though it does get to come out and play some!

Hmmm, I had to reread WonderNine's post to be sure it wasn't mine. A P35 with preban 20 rounders, a flashlight & good Dog, and a (short) Lever Rifle nearby might be comforting. ;)
