i am thinking of mounting a scope on my mini-14 and am wondering where i can find a scope mount. i have been looking online in various places and found several but i am a little confused on how they mount. i also see that some say they only work on the 181 series and newer. i am assuming this is in reference to the serial number in which mine begins with 183. but it doesnt appear to have a place to mount a scope and the mounts i have seen online appear to go into the side of the reciver. now for the question... To mount the scope mount do you remove the side plate and simply slide the scope mount in the hole where the cover had been? and how hard is this to do? :banghead:

The most popular no drill mount for the MINI 14 installs on the left side of the receiver , the plate that holds the ejector and spring in place is removed and the scope mount slides into the receiver in place of the original plate then the screw knob provided in the mount is tightened.

I have a Ranch MINI, so I have not had the pleasure to install one of the mounts described above, but in my opinion they don't look like they woud be very solid.

It sounds like you're describing a B-Square type mount, or something similar. These are good mounts, as they allow you to retain the use of your iron sights in addition to your scope. They come with a replacement cover plate. To install it, just remove your trigger assembly and pull the action out of the stock. You will see a raised flat spot on your factory cover plate. Just push on it downward with a slotted screwdriver. It slides right off. Your bolt stop ejector is beneath that plate, so be careful not to let it drop out. Just slide the replacement cover plate (with threaded hole) into place, insert the action into the stock, replace the trigger assembly, and you're all set.
