mini30 not firing

I found out today at the range, that my mini 30 hates wolf ammo!you would see the hit on the primer but no bang! bang! I put some factory 7.62 winchester brand in the mini no problems. my sks loves the wolf brand,with no miss fires.Anybody else have this problem with wolf in your mini ruger in my round 7.62x39 or the 223. wolf:banghead::banghead:

No problems with Wolf 7.62x39 in my Mini-30. In fact it generally sets off the ones that don't go in my AR 7.62x39.

Check for grease or crud in the firing pin channel that could be softening the blow.

my father in law had one that the spent casings would get stuck. happened randomly with about any ammo.

Sounds like either the firing pin channel is full of crud or the hammer spring is weak. There should be no reason why you can't shoot Wolf through your Mini.

My mini 30 (which I kick myself for selling) digested Wolf like no tomorrow. Always.

Maybe you got a bad batch of ammo. High primers? You should be able to tell by looking.

If not, then there's something wrong with your mini.

I've owned mini 30 and mini 14 and they all functioned flawlessly. Neither rifle is particularly accurate, less so when the barrel heats up.

But IMO both are virtually identical. YMMV.

Mini 30s not working well with surplus steel cased ammo is common. Mine has that problem as do many others, the Wolff extra power hammer spring helps but didn't completely cure it in my case. Some of the surplus ammo has very hard primers.

In what way? Many of the 30s are not reliable with suplus steel cased ammo, the 14 may not be either, haven't tried any in mine.
I own a 30 and a 14, haven't had any problems with either when using good ammo...so I don't share that view

wolf ammo has a hard primer and sometimes can be a bugger to light off. I ended up buying an extra power firing pin spring from wolf for mine and it seems to have cured the missfires.

The only issue with my Mini-30 is the magazines. The factory 5-rounder have never failed. So far, the metal Pro-Mag 10 rounders haven't either. But none of the 20 or 30 round mags, metal or plastic, have been reliable for me. As I said, occasionally they will empty without a stoppage

The lack of good 20 & 30 round mags really holds back the Mini-30 IMHO. I think the size/weight/ergonomics/sights blow away the AK or SKS. But unless you are happy with 5 or maybe 10 round capacity (I can't bring myself to fully endorse any Pro-Mag) the AK or SKS is a better SHTF choice overall.

But I much prefer the Mini-30 at the range, only thing that competes with it is my AR 7.62x39, I shoot iron sights with the Mini-30 and a 1-4X scope on the AR. I much prefer the 7.62x39 over the 5.56 as I can see the holes at 100 yards with only a pair of binoculars or with the scope at 4X if the light is good, with 5.56 I need a spotting scope which is one more thing to drag around and setup. The cheapest 7.62x39 ammo is still about 15-25% cheaper than the cheapest 5.56 too.

Use the search feature. Tons of threads on this. Just switch out the stock 11# firing pin spring for a 13# or 14#. Problem solved in 10 minutes for $13. None of mine would shoot any com block stuff until I did this conversion. Also, it is a good idea to pick up a couple spare springs and firing pins, as well as installing a good recoil buffer. All are easy and cheap mods.

So your mini 30 would not shoot any of the "com block stuff" and now it shoots all of it without a problem? Just by changing to a heavier hammer spring?
In mine I got say 40% fail to fires with Wolf, changed to the Wolff heavy hammer spring and that brought it down to 10-20%

Where are you getting spare firing pins?
Ruger will not sell them and the aftermarket ones are mostly crap from what I've read, they break easily.

Mini 30

Yup mine Hates Wolf with a capital "H"! Dents the primers on about every 3rd-5th shot. The Bear seems fine though.

It's all about the ammo. One case of Wolf would not work worth a @#$@ and the next case worked flawlessly. This is a good reason to buy an AK. If it runs, use it in the Ruger, if not, use it in the AK or SKS. You know you want one.

Mine never failed to fire anything, including Wolf ammo that I ran through it. Now hitting something with it was another thing. I guess the .308 barrel didn't like the 311 bullets. Never had a single case of its not firing though.
