Minnesota sheriff warns residents against firing warning shots after recent incidents

Could be new liberal gun owners.

16 million new gun owners in the last two - three years, and would you believe, over 50% are women.

They have pulled handguns out on school property to bluff each other over a parking incident while picking up their children. (Urban MO location.) IIRC citations were later handed out.

We have millions of new owners, they all have to get thru the learning curve and it's going to be spicy.

BTW, in my experience with firearms over 45 years, I'd say the average gun owner who thinks they know the law or what is legal/illegal, is usually uninformed. The internet and forums have amplified and accelerated the learning curve for all of us. Where can you go to discover which states you plan to travel thru are legal for you to carry a firearm? Before 2000 - go find a book or pamphlet which will be out of date.

I think what a lot of us have learned over 21 years of internet usage is to keep asking questions - not just flatly declare their opinion is right.

Who are you warning if no one is there???

You separated "warning shots" from "intentional discharges." I find every time a gun is deliberately fired, whether in "warning" or not, to be an "intentional discharge." There is no such thing as an unintentional warning shot.

All warning shots are "intentional discharges", though not all "intentional discharges" are warning shots.

In a gun magazine, a story appeared that a guy followed Joey B's advice and guess what. The cops showed up, and didn't find any evidence of a bad guy. They cited the homeowner for discharging a firearm within city limits.

I see the HUGE problem with "warning shots".

BUT ---- depending on YOUR circumstances,it might be the lesser of 2 evils.

The other evil is taking a life.

IF [ and that word means a ton here ] IF you know for a fact your backstops,or where that round will land for SURE !.

Then your intentional discharge to stop a threat or attack might save you a lawsuit [ yes even in a totally justifiable shoot ] if you avoided hitting a subject that might even deserve it.

Look up how much it will cost you [ and yes ,IT WILL ] to be sued by a turd that you shot with perfect right to do so.

From his prison cell, with attorneys paid for by the freaking State !!.

And as a retired LEO, it was not a shock to "hear" shots that no one took responsibility for.

Not firing warning shots does save ammo. I intended to kill a buck once but it turned out to be warning shots. I don't know why one would shoot warning shots anyway. In the Army I was taught to yell three times then shoot while on guard.
