I been looking at these Winchester 1892 rifles done up by Turnbull for a while and I am in love.

https://www.turnbullrestoration.com...ester-1892-in-44-magnum-turnbull-restoration/

I know they are Miroku 92's that are done up in a special configuration for Turnbull, and that they offer them both Turnbull finished and as new from Miroku. Right now I'm not in a position to buy one, but life does change and it may happen one day. So I am wondering, what others think of them? Does anyone have one they shoot cast bullets out of? What does the bore measure on the 44 magnum chambered version? What kind of accuracy do you get?

I'm glad for responses to both the Miroku finished and the Turnbull finished Guns. I appreciate any insight that may be offered from those that have these guns.

Bazoo.

Looks really pretty until you see the price. I guess have spent more on uglier firearms…

Let us know how it shoots. :)

Yeah, they're expensive. But they're the best I've ever seen.

One day I may send one of my vintage Marlins to them. I have a short 1893 .25-36 that would be stunning after a Turnbull job. But I also like it in it's worn original finish, so I'm torn....

As much as I like the look of that rifle, I still prefer the honest worn/used every day look.

Oh I'd like to see that. The Marlin 1893 is one of my favorite rifles. The lines, the style. I'd love to come across a good worn one with a decent action and bore.

I've always wanted to send them my Browning 71 .348WCF in for case coloring... be still my beating heart!
You had me at Model 71. The Winchester model 71 has long been something I've admired. I don't suppose you have a thread on your Browning 71? Have you ever taken game with it?

Take a rifle like that and put it to work... that's the best way! :)
Amen to that! When I get one, that's my plan. I ain't no safe herder. I'll both target shoot and hunt with it. Have it in hand on hikes and use it. Pretty soon it'll have some character.

I like reading about Doug Turnbull's personal 1886 that he's taken on hunts all over the world. https://sportingclassicsdaily.com/stories-told-by-doug-turnbulls-1886/ That rifle is better for having been carried many miles and taken so much game.

I've not had any dealings with the Winchester Miroku guns yet, but I know someone with a couple and they speak very highly of the craftsmanship.

One of the things that attracts me to the Turnbull is not the way it looks, but it reproducing the methods that were used to make the originals. So its a Winchester rifle, and arguably the best made Winchesters since the golden years, that's then given the original type finishes that a deluxe model would have received in the early 1890s. That's pretty attractive.

Then throw in, that its available in 44 magnum, and you have a premier woods bumming gun. Light enough for small game, up through excellent close range deer, and even elk at close range is easily obtainable with a 44 magnum. 44 magnum is an excellent choice for many reasons, but to say its better than the other choices is a fool's errand, because we all know with handloading that other similar bigbores shine just as bright.

I actually bought my 1893 from Turnbull's inventory. It has that well worn look and it’s a great rifle. I wish it had the octagon barrel though. I sometimes wonder if I should have gotten it refinished by them. If it had that octagon barrel it would have been hard not to!:) D8DCA56A-7E73-4549-99B4-0561969F3E9A.jpeg

Ohhh, thanks for sharing. That is very nice. I can see why you would prefer the octagonal barrel. It has just a bit better lines that way. Still, what you have is very very nice for an 1893.

I like all the square bolt critters. Well, let's be honest.......I like Marlin lever guns in general!

Is it $4k plus rifle or $4k including rifle?

Given the cost of custom work, it looks like a good value to me.
The price includes the base gun. They take the gun, remove the tang safety, convert back to a half cock notch, and refinish all the metal with period correct finishes.

I think it’s a great value. And the configuration is just about perfect. I’ll likely add sling swivel studs for mine.

Wow that is a heck of a collection. I like the square bolt guns better than the round bolts. Thank you for sharing all those beauties. That square bolt 1895 at the bottom is very nice.

It's one of my favorites, and the one I paid the most for. Original 1895s sure don't come cheap these days!

That photo doesn't really do any of them justice, especially the 1897 and that 1895. Here's a better one

That one and the 1881 I won't be suppressing. The modern 1895 I threaded, so I can use that for all my suppressed .45-70 needs and leave these fairly rare originals alone.

Man that is a thing of beauty. I'd love to find an example like that when I had the coin to lay down on it. Thank you for sharing that with me. What does your groove diameter run? I don't think I've ever heard on an old model 1895.
