Has anyone had trouble with light pin strikes with the Beretta U22 NEOS? I bought a used one a few months ago and tried several types of ammo (Winchester, CCI, Remington, etc.) with it and it has intermittent misfires due to light pin strikes. I cleaned the heck out of it with no change. I have several mags and it happens with all of them. From 0 2 misfires per mag. I’d rather not go through the hassle of sending it back to Beretta for repair. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

The best advice I can give anyone with a NEOS is to trade it for a Ruger or Browning Buckmark.

After you trade you can spend more time shooting instead of trouble shooting.

Call Beretta USA and request a new firing pin spring under warranty. The one in your Neos might have lost some of its strength.

I have a 6" Neos that I bought about a year ago. The trigger pull was initially pretty heavy, but performing the "sear spring fix" (replacing the heavy factory spring with a lighter one cut from a detent pin spring used in an AR-15 lower receiver) lightened up the trigger pull considerably.

For what it's worth, the 6" Neos is a surprisingly accurate "plinker."

I will say that Beretta makes some very fine firearms but why did they let something like the NEOS with that terrible trigger out of their factory with their name on it?

The trigger can be make better if you know how to do it but there is no reason for them to be that bad from the factory.

I have often wondered that. My theory is that a lawyer was part of the design and engineering staff for the Neos.

True too. A more refined trigger might have driven up the price of the Neos. But then again, how much would it cost Beretta to install a lighter sear spring?

Given the popularity of the Neos, it was only a matter of time before some intrepid rimfire enthusiast came up with a fix for the heavy trigger. And given the pervasiveness of the Internet, one could almost be assured that this fix would quickly be publicized. Fortunately, it was a very simple fix that cost virtually nothing.

There is definitely something mechanically wrong with the pistol. I just spent the last two weekends shooting the heck out of mine. I had zero malfunctions or misfires while shooting over 2,000 rounds without cleaning or lubing. Call Beretta and get it serviced under warranty.

Cleaned and scrubbed

Majic,
I cleaned the heck out of the thing. Stripped it down took the firing pin out and cleaned and lubed all the springs etc. The only thing I did not removed was the grip, which quite honestly I am not sure how to do.

I did notice there was a lot of powder residue on the inside of the slide that might have been preventing the pin from travelling forward all the way. I cleaned that all up. The problem is the next time I went to the range, three shots into it, click and no bang. I guess back to the factory with it, then maybe on the cutting block!! Too bad to, it is a nice shooter IMHO.

Thanks everyone.

I have the same experience as IZ. My first time at the range, shooting a variety of ammo (total of 200 rounds), I had only one misfire (I think it was the ammo not the gun) and approximately one fail to eject every other mag. Second and third time out I had 100% reliabilty, shooting about 300 rounds each time. I think yours needs a warranty fix.

Yeah, it's not the most sophisticated .22 (By the way, I've owned Ruger MK pistols and still shoot a Trailside - have shot Buckmarks), but it's modest in price, space-age interesting looking, and a darned fun plinker with or without a red dot. I purposely got the bottom-feeding black, 4.5 inch just to have a lower end plinker. No regrets. I did put a Mosquito in my hand at my dealer recently, and wanted it, but I'll hold off on that for a while. The Neos is a lot less expensive and plenty enjoyable. :D

Good luck with it. Let us know how it turns out for you.
