Yesterday, state Representatives Rory Ellinger (D-86) and Jill Schupp (D-88) introduced House Bill 545, anti-gun legislation that would turn many law-abiding gun owners into felons. HB 545 would ban the possession, sale, transfer or manufacture of certain semi-automatic rifles and magazines that are capable of holding more than ten rounds.

HB 545 contains no grandfather clauses. Therefore, under HB 545, if you are currently in possession of the semi-automatic rifles and magazines outlined in this bill, you will have 90 days from the effective date of this legislation to surrender, destroy or remove these currently lawful items from Missouri. If you fail to do so, you could be charged with a Class C felony if this legislation is passed and enacted into law.

Please take a few minutes and write or call your local missuori house representative and tell them to vote against House Bill No. 545!! Go here to find their contact information: http://www.house.mo.gov/ Share this with all your friends, and local gun owners and gun shops. Let's make sure this doesn't have a chance to pass!!!!

Another one?!?!?! It certainly looks like they want to push every citizen in every state to the limit and see what happens. I can just picture a bunch of Gomer politicians running around in the middle of Civil War 2013 waving a House Bill in the air yelling, "Citizen's Arayest, Citizen's Arayest!!!".

I just sent them all a message. I think blkbrd666 is right. I'm sure every state has someone in their legislature that proposes something like this. They have nothing to lose, if it passes, they got something passed, if it fails, no skin off of their back. It's just sad.

Here is what Keith Frederick from District 121 wrote me back this morning

"Hi (name),
Thanks for emailing me about HB 545. First off let me assure you I am solidly behind our second amendment rights. I am an avid hunter and own lots of guns. Look at HB 350 which I sponsered to protect our gun rights and your privacy. I have also signed onto Rep Guernsey's bill that will protect our rights going forward even if the federal government tries to infringe those rights. I do not think HB 545 has a chance in he** of passing."

I like this guy already. Lol.

I just joined this forum today when I did a little searching to see if this story was true. This proposed legislation is absolutely asinine.

Here's the message I sent to my Representative. If I get a response, I'll post it as a follow-up.

Dear Ms. Sommer,

It is with great concern that I read the contents of Missouri House Bill 545, which adds legislating relating to the manufacture, import, possession, purchase, sale, or transfer of any assault weapon or large capacity magazine, with a penalty provision.

What is particularly disturbing about this legislation is the following provision:

4. Any person who, prior to the effective date of this law, was legally in possession of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine shall have ninety days from such effective date to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution:

(1) Remove the assault weapon or large capacity magazine from the state of Missouri;

(2) Render the assault weapon permanently inoperable; or

(3) Surrender the assault weapon or large capacity magazine to the appropriate law enforcement agency for destruction, subject to specific agency regulations.

5. Unlawful manufacture, import, possession, purchase, sale, or transfer of an assault weapon or a large capacity magazine is a class C felony.

Basically, law abiding citizens who have invested real money in a perfectly legal activity would suddenly face the possibility of becoming a felon for not surrendering property that was legally obtained. Second Amendment issues aside, this legislation simply doesn't pass the sanity check and seems unduly punitive to responsible gun owners.

I personally feel that this entire bill should be rejected, but at the very least it should contain a grandfather clause so as not to make criminals out of law abiding citizens who simply want to keep what they legally purchased. I ask for your support in rejecting this ridiculous bit of legislation.

LOL! I think it's funny. It can't pass. If it did it would be quickly struck down. Worthless politicians trying to write laws they can't enforce with powers they don't have.

Fantasy. They should become fiction writers because they suck at their current job.

All hell.

I have a friend who's a software developer at MidwayUSA. He's not gonna be happy to see this.

I wonder if Sierra will move AGAIN if that goes through?

Tom Hurst just got back to me and this is what he wrote.

(My name),
I remember. I hope you are doing well.

Concerning HB 545, the chance of this getting through the House of Representatives is virtually ZERO. I will continue to try and protect our 2nd Amendment rights.

Thanks for your concern,
Rep Tom Hurst, 62nd Dist

The guy used to do my taxes before I joined the Army and he is a good man. I also like that he sent a personal message, not an automated report.

Trent, so your friend is a software developer at Midway, huh? Any chance he could hook another Missouri guy up with a discount code for a reloading press and kit? Lol.

All 4 sponsors represent the St. Louis area. Enough said.

Yeah. Unfortunately I'm over here too. But at least my Reps are both GOP. I will never understand why these dumbocrat morons think that taking guns away from law-abiding citizens will take them away from the CRIMINALS :confused::confused:

If you sign up for the NRA e-mails - they send out alerts via e-mail that make it really easy for you to e-mail your state and national Reps. I have sent several lately through this channel. I got a reply from Lt Gov Peter Kinders office today on the one I sent regarding HB545. He is on our side too.

We just gotta keep the pressure on these legislators - show them that taking our rights away will not be tolerated....

That shooting has really caused the anti-gun side to show their true colors. I mean how brazen and bold do you have to be to introduce this kind of NY crap in an extremely pro-gun state with a Republican super majority? That's insanity!

At the very least, these people are giving the 2nd Amenement side all the evidence we need to point to when the other side says "no we don't want to take your guns".

I'm surprised the legislation is being proposed in a state like Missouri. I'm glad it won't pass but the gaul of the antigunners is high.

I'm not surprised. These idiot legislators from St Louis think they should run the whole state - kinda like chitcago does in Illinois... SMH And St Louis is one of the worst cities in the nation for crimes and gun crimes - but instead of electing law makers that will address the problem with stiffer jail sentences, and allowing law abiding citizens more freedom to protect themselves - they keep electing these clueless morons just because somebody told them the dumbocrats are for THEM and the GOP is only for the "rich" I hope one of our strong GOP legislators makes a mockery of this bill and it's authors in front of the House and the media!

I better give my BIL a call tonight. They live outside KC, so he'll want to be informed of this.

As already said though, it probably won't pass. Better to have everyone get in touch with their reps though.

Haha believe me dude, I've TRIED to talk him in to promo codes and stuff before. He won't budge, not one inch, even when I tried to bribe him. :)

They just interviewed Rory Ellinger and Jill Schupp on stl channel 4. They are clueless idiots from a couple of the "higher class" subburbs of STL. You may google their email addresses on the Mo representative list. Crash the servers! I sent my admonishment already... Just keep in mind that they now have the Capitol Police monitoring calls and emails - so keep things civil and I wouldnt suggest that any threats be made...:uhoh:

It`s not even on the calender so I doubt it will ever fly, we will keep an eye on em..............

Guys, just a word or warning from what was a gun friendly state.......
take a look at what has happened in Colorado in ONE WEEK! Do not remain complacent,,,,get active NOW>

Worthless politicians trying to write laws they can't enforce with powers they don't have.

You can't see a pattern? We put an America hating, gun hating "community organizer" into the White House.

Some dirt bag punk shoots up a school.

Suddenly the POTUS is emboldened to announce that he's going to (do his best to) destroy the 2nd Amendment.

Suddenly state politicians in California, Missouri, New York and Ohio announce they, too, are going to (do their best to) destroy the 2nd Amendment.

These are not unrelated events.

Rory Ellinger and Jill Schupp are both flaming liberals, and their spawn are even worse. Hard core, communist-in-everything-but-name liberals.

They are a distinct minority in Missouri. They are grand-standing, and wasting legislative time and energy on a meaningless gesture, but they are getting their names and faces in the news like the attention-whores they are.

Ohio has legislation introduced on both ends of the spectrum.

One end, while not as bad as what's going on elsewhere, is an AWB, limiting magazines to ten rounds and tracking ammo purchases. This is grand standing and hopefully won't pass.

The other end, introduced legislation making federal and international bans on weapons unenforceable in Ohio. Hopefully, this will pass.

Regardless, Democrats everywhere seems like they want to make names for themselves by passing partisan legislation.
