got my latest pair the other day. one started life as a Springfield hi-cap .45ACP and the other started out as a .38 Super Mil-spec. The previous owner sent the pair back for quite a bit of work, including a complete 9mm top-end with a Nowlin barrel and the ability to swap frames/slides. The guy had over $2000 in Custom Shop work and I got them for a steal at $1500 for the pair. :D

now i have 4 possible combinations of guns:
.38Super single stack
.38Super Hi-cap
9mm single stack
9mm hi-cap

Sweet !

I especially like the look of the combination in the 5th and 6th Pics.

Congrats.

The problem with convertible firearms is that Murphy's Law guarantees that whenever you want to go shooting, the gun will be set up in the configuration you did NOT want to shoot that day.

Of course you have enough pieces for two complete guns which will help a lot.

Cool deal you got.

And -- please forgive my ignorance -- the conversion means that .45ACP is forever removed from the equation? I know that 1911s are not built with the kind of variety in mind that the AR system is (everything from .22 to .50, if you care to pay for enough intermediary parts ;)), but would enjoy knowing specifically why the .45 --> .38 conversion is one-way.

THanks!!!

I'm not sure what the previous owner did to the .45 slide that was originally on the hi-cap, but the frame has been cut to accept ramped barrels. also the ejector has been change to the .38S/9mm ejector. you can't swap just the barrels, because the breech faces are different sizes.

if i wanted to, i could get a complete .45ACP slide (w/ ramped barrel) and swap out the ejector and it should work fine.

since i don't shoot .38Super at the moment, i might fit a 9mm barrel into the .38Super slide, that way now worries with the shooting configuration.
