Not really where I wanna be
I tested several different types of 22 ammo today. CCI ruled the day. As you can see from the targets the pistol loved all the different varieties of CCI that I fed it. I was a little surprised that the SK Standard + didn't shoot better.....one group looked good. I'll need to revisit the SK.

The one group of Federal 510's that I shot also looked very promising. The Aguila was no slouch either. I love the fact that the cheapest ammo (CCI Blazer) shot the best.....I'll stock up on that along with the standard velocity stuff.

Needless to say I am impressed with the accuracy of my new Mk IV. Obviously it prefers certain ammo over others.....as expected. The gun only malfunctioned 1 time.....a failure to extract. Other then that it was perfect. I've never had a rimfire pistol function this well right off the bat. The only modification was the installation of a Volquartsen accurizing kit.....which makes the trigger unbelievable!

All the groups were shot using a red dot sight, rested, indoors at 25 yards. No cleaning or anything in between groups.....I'd actually be surprised if I ever even need to clean the bore.

Beaut. Makes me want to take my Mk IV Target out. It's stock, though I need a Volq trigger for sure.

I tell ya what Cooldill, I am ruined forever as far as pistol triggers are concerned now. It used to be that I never paid much attention to my handgun triggers.....Having been a rifle trigger snob for a very long time it took a while to bleed over to the handgun side. A nice trigger on a rifle can improve shooting somewhat....a nice trigger on a handgun can improve shooting exponentially.....it's obvious why a short sight radius/short barreled weapon would benefit from minimal effort put into pulling the trigger.....(newbie disclaimer!): One must keep in mind that this is not the trigger that you'd want on a hunting firearm.....while it's great for precision shooting at the range it could be dangerous in the field, especially if you had gloves on.

To anyone waffling over the idea of installing the VQ accurizing kit do yourself a favor and just get it. You will not be sorry. I've installed 2 of them now....the first one was a little challenging but the second one went in without a hitch. There are some excellent youtube videos out there to help and to tell you the truth, if you understand firearms terminology the Volquartsen instructions on their web site are very good too.

This gentlemen's video is presented very well.............I wish it would have been around when I put my first kit in.

Hit the range again today....(it's my weekend). I shot a few different types off ammo that I didn't try yesterday. Nothing stood out as I expected since it was all just bulk stuff. The good news is that I was able to repeat yesterdays results with the ammo that shot the best. So to go along with the case off CCI SV that I got a few weeks back I ordered a case of CCI Blazers. Just like with my reloading components....if it works well I'm going to buy as much as I can afford.

Noticed something today....I really like the smell of the Aguila Super Extra S.V. ammo.....I'm not sure what it is but it is pleasing to my nose!

I had a short conversation at the end of my range session with one of the NRA instructors that works there about shooting some Bulls-eye matches. It might be something that I want to try....It will be a huge challenge for me to shoot one-handed that's for sure.....but hey, I'd like to keep it interesting so there might as well be some goals involved.

Tried something a little different tonight.....I put my 2.5-8 Weaver scope on the Mk IV just for the heck of it and I learned a few things. 1. This is gonna take some practice! 2. CCI SV ammo is still a top performer. 3. You can't shoot at max power unless you have a perfect rest! 4. My pistol rest sucks! 5. With the right ammo this gun can be impressive even with me behind the trigger. And last but certainly not least if it wasn't for the Volquartsen trigger the gun wouldn't be anywhere near as accurate as it is.....the scope really makes apparent any errors when you pull the trigger....any heavier and it would be very difficult to keep still unless the darn gun was in a vice.

All groups shot indoors, @ 25 yards, rested.....oh and the best part? They were all 10 shot groups! I figured since the mag holds 10 I might as well make that the default number of shots for each group.....The CCI SV was ridiculous as mentioned above!

Wow. Those CCI SV's are well liked by your gun! That is a fairly significant difference.

I am looking at a MK IV as my next purchase. Maybe in a few months. I like the carved wooden grip for sure.

I think you'll be well pleased with a Mk IV DH. I wasn't even aware of these grips until I did a little digging. It's almost impossible to find good fitting grips that work for a lefty too. These Ruger (Atamont?) grips are pretty darn sweet. Very comfortable to say the least.....for a relatively small amount of money I ended up with a heck of a good shooting pistol.

Here's the crappy pistol rest that I've been using.....it has served me well for sighting in and occasional shooting but for accuracy testing is needs a lot of help.

I added about 2 inches of foam to the base platform so it can contour to the shape of the pistol butt. It is much more stable now......If I wasn't so cheap (not rich) there would be something more sophisticated in my range bag.

Did a little more testing today. I put the red dot back on and tested the best performers thus far to make sure that my earlier groups weren't flukes.

See for yourself:

The CCI Blazers shot pretty darn well for HV ammo

....and the CCI SV was stellar! Man I love this stuff!

And for you purists I proved to myself that I need a lot of practice offhand!

All in all it was a very good range session. I shot both my Ruger Mk pistols with nary a malfunction from either one of them. I was a little worried about my Mk IV since I was using 4 new magazines. Luckily they all performed up to snuff. I got 4 brand new OEM mags shipped to my house $65.......that's one heck of a deal!

I also took a step up as far as my pistol rest is concerned. Not expensive but with a little added padding this thing is rock solid.....to bad I can't shoot offhand like I can from the rest!

Enjoyed reading your range report on your new Mk.IV! One thing's for certain: it sure likes CCI SV ammo! My Mk.II Target loves Wolf Match Target and CCI MiniMags. Keep up the good work!
