I've been thinking about their 9mm carbine or .40 carbine but have never heard anything about this manufacturer before - ever.

I dont think i would ever buy anything from Hi point. I looked at one of their pistols chambered in 9mm and it looked like it would be high risk just pointing it down range and pullen the trigger. but thats just me.

Re the carbine, most anyone I've known who bought one was quite pleased with it. They're ugly as sin but they work.

The pistols are even uglier and an ergonomic nightmare. Definitely something you buy if you can't afford anything better. They are however, functional.

I've heard good things about the carbines.

I've heard the handguns are quite functional, but they're a pain to clean, and there are better guns out there for juat a little more $.

Not sure if I'd ever buy a HiPoint pistol, but one of those little carbines is high on my list of things to buy. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

They're both cheap and inexpensive, reliable, sturdy, have terrible triggers, ugly as all get-out, chambered in several popular calibers, and nobody would ever want to buy one.

At least, that's what the general consenus seems to be here on THR.

Well thanks very much for the responses.

Although I'm still left with.........indecision. I'm not interested in the pistols at all but the carbines just look like lots of fun.

Problem is, like darkmind said, they look unsafe, and the feeling I get from the front page of the website is that they are toy guns made to handle real ammo.

picked one up and broke it trying to insert a mag.the dealer prompty gave me another one to look at but I passed.

they are functional but I feel the frame could use some refinments such as a steel housing in the carbine where the mags go in..areas where it sees alot of use and movement and a bit more ridgid barrel to receiver area. they have a lifetime warranty but then again,so did intratec.

the inside seems well planned though..bolt mechanism designed good..just dont care for the rest of it.

I've shot a couple of them, and handled several more, in .40 S&W and 9mm. All those I know who own them swear by their reliability and general serviceability. I don't own one yet, but I'm seriously thinking about buying one in 9mm., just to have a carbine in that caliber available. I think they're perfectly good value for the money you'll spend.

I own both a 9mm carbine and a compact 9mm pistol. I would not trust my life with either of them. The carbine is a very accurate plinker. They do strike me as a toy gun with a real one in it. The company has good customer service and they are remarkably reliable although not very durable.

Mine's camo w/an El Cheapo red dot.The trigger pull isn't the crispest.But it goes bang every time.Pretty darn accurate tone ragged hole at 25 yards isn't out of the question(if I'm really lucky that is )

It is,admittedly,a club.But hey!It works.

I'd STRONGLY recommend taking a few minutes & sanding off the plastic"flash"from around the seams.

Those who own the carbines speak well of them. I've only handled one, but it felt really good, even if it's pretty oogly. You sure can't beat the price on them. The next time I see a used one for about $100 I may just buy it.

I've owned 2 of the carbines,never had a malfuntion and they were pretty accurate.Had a high point .380 that shot pretty decent also.However,they are ugly as sin.Traded the .380 to a new New England Firearms 20 gauge and was happy to get the trade.I can't seem to get past the "ugly"issue.Other than that,the ones i've owned have been fairly good guns.

I've had a Hi-Point 9mm handgun for a couple of years now and it always goes bang. I think they are great guns for the price.

I'm thinking about getting a carbine too.

As far as the looks, you get used to it after a while.

I have the 9mm compact model, it shoots good for me. keep it clean like, most weapons , is the key to good firing and has been doing good.

My first handgun was a Hi-point .380. It was ungodly ugly, heavy as a brick, and way too big for the caliber. However, EVERYTIME I pulled the trigger, it went BANG! Would it serve well as a concealed weapon? Only if you have no other option and you have a big purse or pocket to stuff it in. Would it be useful as a home-defense weapon? If you have no other option, sure it would. Would it be fun at the range? Certainly more fun than pointing your finger at a piece of paper and yelling BANG.

However, you asked specifically about the carbines, so let me give you my impression of them. I fired a 9mm belonging to a THR member (Bowlcut) a few times. It is spot on accurate out to the range you'd want to use a 9mm carbine. Put a red dot on it and you won't have any problems with accuracy. Recoil is next to nothing. The biggest problem is like mentioned earlier, you will want to shave the areas around the seams. They will irritate you to no end. Also, they need to release a higher capacity mag now that the ban is gone. That or they should have made the carbines and the pistols to take the same mags, preferably both.

Everyone I've talked to who has fired one has seemingly been equally impressed with them. They are an inexpensive, fun, reliable weapon.

The carbines, while ugly, are functional, and reliable. My boss just bought one in .40, I gotta get over to his place and try it out! We both own Kel-tec SUB2000's in 9mm, and like those a lot , also. I've handled the pistols, but haven't shot one yet. Better than nothing, but again, not pretty.

Awesome. I think I'll opt for the 9mm carbine, since I already own a glock 26 and the ammo is cheaper.

of the 9mm carbines. Been reliable for the past 300 rounds. I actually like the looks. Handles wally world white box ammo and CCI blazers. Can cover the holes in the target at 25yds with a quarter (ok, half dollar piece).

Got mine used for $100. Would do it again.

Not a bad plinker

I have both the carbine and the compact 9mm. The are both fun and UGLY as sin. The carbine has about 3000 rounds through it and the pistol has about 400. Put a red dot on the carbine and its a real egg popper.
The carbine had some problems at first and had to be sent back to the factory for repairs twice. Service was excellent, returned in less than a week with a detailed explanation of what they found wrong and each time I was given two 10 round mags "for my troubles".... The pistol was so cheap it was a gimme...it cycles and can be reasonably accurate within 30-40 feet, no wind, good ammo, act of god, etc!!!! Cleaning of both is a bear, but as crude and loose as the actions are they can be cleaned for the most part without full dissassembly!!!

The carbine is cheap enough that it can be "tweaked" a bit with no real loss of investment. You do lose the rear sight when you mount the scope rail though.
Oh, the mags for the carbine will fit the pistols in the same caliber with no mods.

long story short, fun to shoot, easy to maintain, minimal investment, cheap caliber(9mm). Have not tried the hi-cap mags but that is on the short list.

(the plastic stock does allow for some low rent mods if you have initiative and imagination)

Bought a 9mm carbine when they first came out

Best $165 I ever spent....Yeah,they're ugly and cheap looking...But its a great plinker, and good gun for teaching (no recoil to speak of)....Mines probably got 4-5000 rounds through it with out a malfunction.

Have a new Hi-point carbine and have shot 150 rds of white box 9mm without a problem.Mine came with a laser ,great at night.As others have said the accuracy is very good .The forward sight broke when rifle fell called Hi-point and they didn't ask what happened just were to mail the new sight to.
What a great truck gun ..... after shoting so well its starting to look kinda purty!
