I e-mailed MKS about the possible release of the Hi-Point carbine in .45 and they said that it will be released in mid to late 2005. I suggested that they make a heat shield like on some tactical shotguns to make the carbine more streamline. I e-mailed them back to see what kind of capacity we could expect, but have not heard back as of yet. I will definatly pick one of these up when they are released and if they dont release the heat shield I will make on fit.

Thanks. I just asked my dealer 4 days ago if he thought they'd make a .45 or not. That's what I have been holding out for. He said probably not. Thanks for checking on this. I didn't even think about emailing them. Damn they are ugly. LOL

Yep they told me the same thing about a month ago so it looks like they really are going to make it..I asked if they were going to make it Over 10 shots and they said no,but they are considering it for the future.

Will it take 1911 or Glock 21 type mags?
It will probably take their .45 mags. Hi-point needs to "upgrade" their rifles to take popular double stack pistol magazines. They would really sell a lot more of them that way.

Especially

since I have a fundamental problem with paying %^&*&^%$ :cuss: $17 for a 10 round mag...for a $165 gun!

hi cap mags

IIRC I saw a news clip interviewing the owner of MKS after the incident involving a HI-Point carbine in a school shooting, Columbine I think. He acted like hi caps were not in their future because he didn't want one of his designs gaining popularity with ill-doers, like say the tec-9 or the mac-10 or any other inexpensive super high capacity weapon. It seems like it's only a matter of time before inexpensive high capacity weapons find their way in to the news and the owners of the companies find themselves in court. For this same reason only MKS mags work. But then again this was a news report while he was under the glass following a very well publicized incident with one of his designs, so maybe things have changed.

Well I decided to email them and see if I had any luck. This is what I got

"James, We expect to start delivery of the carbine in .45acp caliber by mid to late 2005. They were in dual development with the 40sw for a few years now. New mags will be fifteen round for the carbines. MKS/db"

re

I just got e-mailed back today about the mag capacity. I am pretty happy with 15 of course I was hoping for a drum fed carbine but oh well.
