Has anybody on here installed mojo peeps on their mosin like on surplusrifle?

I went to the range with my new m38 and am just realizing that I suck with regular iron sights. My dads garand's sights are much better.

Granted, I know that I am shooting better with the garand because it is simply a more accurate rifle. But I do like those sights better.

Mojos are great. They've been through four generations now. I kind of liked the really early ones that were pretty primitive apertures. The new ones are a much more sophisticated double aperture system. Keep in mind that they don't fit all Mosins. The older M-91 sights and those found on some Finns are completely different.

Cos,
Would you suggest that I stick with just the rear apperature and leave the front blade? Thats similar to the setup on the garand and seems like it would be easier to use.

This is for a m38 which it lists on their website, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm curious if the Mojo rear sight allows for "on the fly elevation adjustment" or if they are designed more as a "set and forget". I've had some interest in them because I haven't found a scout type scope mount that didn't suck for the MN.

I believe the newest version (the 'Microclick') allows finger adjustment of elevation instead of requiring an allen wrench.

Incidentally, the M91 / M91/30 scout mount marketed through Makarov.com is Godlike. If you don't mind driving pins out of the 91/30 sight assembly to remove it you'll be in business.

Only if you have a blade front like the M-91's or a Finn. The P&G's create a second aperture outside the back aperture, which doesn't work too well at least for me. The very best aperture system in my experience is a simple triangle front sight like an Arisaka's and a back aperture. The triangle sits nicely in the circle. A post doesn't work so well.

Cosmoline I can agree with you. I have a Swiss K31 that has a popsicle for a front sight that could use a good file. I could really turn it into a mini triangle. Umm I wonder If there is a mojo in the works for a K31

i installed the microclick snapsights (front and rear peep) on my M38. and i have to say they are outstanding sights. they line up quickly and are easy to use. once you try them you'll never wanna go back to the stock sights.

Sorry to tell you this but I did buy one from them and it just plain sucked! The mount was sloppy and it never allowed the scope to be adjusted to point of aim. My hits were WAY high and after inspecting the base I determined that the rearmost part of the mount was tight against the reciever causing the aformentioned problem. Secondly the mounts put the scope axis ridiculously high over the bore causing me to crane my neck to see through it. Thirdly, the screws that replace the sight pin were tearing through the aluminum of the base. All I can figure is that QA must be very hit and miss with them because some folks have had great results whereas I didn't.

Lyman used to make a rear apeture sight that mounted to the right side front receiver bridge.
You would have to carve some wood away and drill and tap the receiver.
They are used with a large diameter night apetures since the smaller target apetures would not allow enough light and focal clarity because the sight is about three inches away from your eye.

I don't know if Lyman still offers this sight or maybe you would have to special order it but if you want an apeture with a full range of elevation and windage adjustment this would be the way to go.

All seem to be valid opinions thus far.

I really can't decide whether I want to go peeps or scout scope with this rifle. I'm about to put a set of peeps on my 10/22, so that should help with my peeps fix. Perhaps I should go scout with the mosin. Is Darrel's the best mount around? What scope are you guys using?
