I would like to ask if any body out here could tell me why I can not keep a extractor in the bolt? I have had a gunsmith put in 4 new extractors. They have only lasted one or two shots, and then I am back to square one. Right at the moment the rifle is a wall hanger! The parts for this rifle are far and few in between, as it was discontinuded years ago.

Have you talked to the folks at Nu-Line guns? There's an early model extractor and a late model - the dividing line is sn 119,000.

"Nu Line Guns Inc bought all of the parts from Winchester for the Model 100. They can supply parts or repair your gun back to factory specs."

"EXTRACTORS : The model 88 used three different extractors, the early guns use #1288 that used a “tee” style guide slot. The model 100 came into being in 1961 at S/N 110,000 for the 88. The 88 and 100 then utilized the same extractors, #1200. Then at s/n 178,000 the final #6300 extractor, utilizing a dovetail slot, was used again for both."

JohnBT:

I thank you sir, I will look into the web site that you provided.
I do hace a problem with being able to ship the rifle down that way as I live up in Canada. I will try and see if I can get the parts and have them installed up here.
The gunsmith that tried to repair the rifle is a very confident gunsmith. So I took his word that there was nothing else I could do to repair the rifle.
Also he had trouble finding the pin, springs and extractors, but I don't know if he got the parts from down your way or if he found them up here in Canada.
I do thank you for the come back, thank you sir.

strange

There is a tapered plunger and spring that hold the extractor in place and allow it to jump over the edge of the case and grab the extractor groove of the brass.Something very unusual is going on . Where in Canada do you live .

I may have some extractors .As stated by someone else there are different styles .

.308 extractor

Hello Chris;
I live in the south east corner of B.C. a small town called Elkford, right in the middle of the Rockies. It has been two years since I have been able to use this rifle, but I do have a Browning lever action that I use now.I, more or less accept the fact, that the Winchester is a wall hanger now! I will probably try and get the parts and then retire the rifle and just enjoy the fact that it was a great rifle to use in bye gone days!
