Model 1914 Savage 22

Thanks for the info I have recieved about my older family hand me down guns. Here is one more, I have a Savage Model 1914 22lr. I used to shoot it all the time when I was a kid, pretty indestructable. Used to take it all apart also, but last time I did when I was much older and wiser, I had a few parts left over. The gunsmith, after he put it together for me, asked me not to do that again. Anyway, I was wondering what the production was for these guns. I looked on the Savage website and they do not support the history of older weapons. Just wondering if anyone knows the years they were produced, or the numbers of guns they made in this model. Nice gun. I am currently restoring one of the same right now. The research I have shows it being sold through 1920 or so but no beginning date. I would assume these were for the 1914 model year hence the designation. They are pretty tough but the barrel rifling was pretty shallow and alot of them I have seen were pretty shot out. Mine has fair rifling but being a .22 it still shot pretty good for what it was. Yes the action is a bit tricky if your unfamiliar with it when disassembling.

According to oldguns.net they were made from 1914 to 1926.

According to the Standard Catalog of Firearms it was 1914 to 1924.

No idea about the production figures. Quoted prices seem to run $50 to $300 depending on the condition.

i have 2 savage 1914s both have bullet feeding problems i took the rifle to a gunsmith he handed it back to me same as before not fixed i took it to another gunsmith he gave it back same problem i am beginning to wonder if these 1914 models had a design flaw with the carrier after i take the gun apart in two pieces i look at the action where the 22 bullet feeds from the magazine tube i cant figure it out might as well be a pig looking at a watch does anybody out there know about the mechanics of these pump action 22s
