Does anyone have one of these and also what is the big differences from the old model 29?

I see everybody talking about old model 29's and I saw this advertised as an exclusive and my distributor and was wondering what the interest is.

Model 29 Performance Center

Thanks

Jason(long time lurker finally having a question :) )

Well, aside from the 4 screw frame, contoured bbl, scopemount, trigger stop and the unfluted cylinder, it will almost certainly be round butt only, will have the action lock and a PC action job. And of course, since this is a new 29 it will be sturdier than the -3 and below 29s.

I'm interested as well.

I zoomed in on the pics and couldn't see the dreaded lock, has the performance center released guns without the lock since the debuted?

Forgive my ignorance, does distributor special mean it will only be available through the listed retail stores? If so, I may have to harass my crack, I mean gun dealer of choice to look into doing a transfer.

The lock is on the port side just above the cylinder latch piece.

I think distributor special means one of the S&W pushers (Lew Horton, Bangers, RSR, Camfour) commissioned the PC to make this gun in this configuration.

Well, that's certainly where it is on my PC 627 and 625. ;)

The specification pdf on Smith's site has a port side image of the revovler and there isn't a lock there, even when I zoom in so far it pixelates. Wishful thinking on my part perhaps....

The pdf states that this is a JSC Exclusive (Jerry's Sports Centers?) and lists five retail locations, none of which are near TX.

Oh I didn't realize there was another picture of the 29. My bad. Well, the 57MG doesn't show a lock either. But the picture is CGI. Might be an artist error.

Ok I looked at the Acrobat file. It also says the 29 has an internal hammer :)

So I won't raise my hopes about the lock not being there :)

Is it just my tired old eyes, or does the ejector rod housing actually taper up to the muzzle over over a good four inches?

That's very seriously eek!

I have a 30 year old, 6.5 inch Model 29... and it's an uncommonly good-looking gun. This thing here is not...
