Local GS has a 5.5" S&W Model 41, on consignment, for $815.00 OTD. Production year is 1996 and is ANIB with 2 mags. Beautiful weapon...How about the price?

Junebug, I have no idea what the 41 is going for these days, but I have one that I bought 35 years ago and it is a great gun. Check out Gun Broker and see what they are going for. That is the best source I know of for true market value prices.

I've checked GB recently, and the price for this one seems about right...Feel better getting THR members' opinions...before I jump. Thanks for yours.

I bought a one year old gun with a couple of very small marks and two magazines for $850 OTD. Your price for NIB sounds very fair to me.

dont know where you live. here in central CT, as you describe it--it is a very good price.

I wouldn't sell my 41 for that amount.
Nothing extra about mine either. It's an "A" series with cocking indicator but is mint.
If you're wanting a 41, price sounds fair for the current market, IMO.
I'm not an expert though.

I'm going to go against the flow here. I think it is a little high. I paid $550 for one last year with 3 mags and in excellent shape. Makes a great bullseye gun. If your are really wanting it, then buy it up. Me, I'd look for a better deal. Three or more on Gunbroker for under 7 bills, IMHO, you could better than $815.

$700 on the web--one needs to add shipping and insurance and your FFL costs:low ball it at $760. facter in the sight unseen vrs handling it and any problems being handled locally: i''ll pay 5% extra for the piece of mind. and the have it now vrs the bid & wait & bid & wait and than if you win the wait somemore for it to ship and be received and......

local to me, if consigned at 815 i'd offer 775 and close the deal at 800 OTD. i'd also inquire politely if the store could extend me 5 or 10% off on accessories re this purchase. thus savings going foward far exceeding the higher upfront price.

The great thing about buying from a turn key gun dealer is that you actually get to handlle and check out the firearm up close.
You buy from a website, you buy a firearm that may, or may not, be exactly what is pictured in the advertisement.
If it is a bad deal, you get the pleasure of trying to get your money back through the mail services, which may, or may not, happen in a timely manner.
That difference alone is worth the few extra dollars spent at a real gunshop in my humble opinion.

I paid $750.00 for my Model 41, like new in the box with all the goodies around eleven years ago.
I have never regretted the purchase.

I've never had an issue with the 10+ guns I've bought online either through GB or GA. Even with shipping and FFL transfer fee you still come out a head by ~$100. Lot's of .22 ammo for $100...;)

You can buy a brand new one from Bud's for $847. right now, and that will be the total price shipped to your dealer, depending on how you chose to pay for it and unless you chose the replacement insurance they offer for either $6. or $8. depending on item.

Personally, I like the older ones better than the new ones but there ARE advantages to buying new and grips can be changed at later dates if desired.

So an $700. price would be great but at $800.+ the new gun begins to have a pretty high appeal, IMO...http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_39_71/products_id/26193

btw, do yourself the favor of buying the 5 1/2" version unless you're an accomplished bullseye shooter. The shorter sight radius is easier to shoot accurately for most people, and this is particularly true if you use the pistol for field or combat types of shooting or practicing.
