Interested in picking up a .22 target pistol. I know everyone recommends the Ruger Mark IV or Model 41 if price is no object, but the LGS has a S&W 2206 on consignment for $600. It’s kind of cool and this seems like a reasonable price based on what they go for on gunbroker. Lots of conflicting opinions out there about whether it’s any good— any of you have one?

? S&W 622 maybe?
I had a 422 4", one of the guns I kick myself for selling. My best friend has one in 6", it goes to the range every time he does. At his house, we stiff-finger it. We have convinced others it had 'da switch' we were firing it so fast.
Very easy gun to take down for cleaning (your takedown tool is a spent .22 case) and very accurate. I actually carried mine in a shoulder holster at times, weighed nothing. (the stainless one is heavier, and the more accurate for it.)
I let one go that came in the LGS; had them set it aside, but just couldn't come up with the $$$ at the time. I would pay about $450-500 for the 422, and yes, $600 isn't that bad for the stainless version.

Gun Review: Playing the odds with the Smith & Wesson 2206 :: Guns.com

"However, when it was introduced in 1990 it quickly earned a reputation for being problematic – particularly with some brands of ammunition. The extractor wasn’t very strong and failures-to-eject were common. Sometimes cases would split and get stuck in the chamber, requiring the application of a rod from the muzzle to dislodge them.

Well, when I say these problems were “common”, I mean relatively speaking. Supposedly, S&W’s test data showed an overall problem rate of about 4 percent. That was a high enough rate to eat into the profit margin for the gun. At least, given that the gun wasn’t really a popular seller to start with."

My 422 (basically the same gun but blued with an aluminum frame) has been flawless- eats everything and anything Ive fed it and is very accurate. That said, would I pay $600 for a stainless one? Errrr, ah, well......it would have to be in perfect condition with box and several extra mags (they are the same as M41 mags, btw).

Unless you plan on suppressing it, Id probably be looking at one of the fancier Ruger Marks for that kind of money. The S&W does easily lend itself to a can thanks to the low bore and barrel nut design.
