Model 500 question.

I had one with an 8-3/8's barrel. "If" I was going to get another one it would be a 4 inch. The 8-3/8's is just too big and heavy to me. I want a Freedom Arms in .475 with a 4-3/4 inch barrel, that should be an easy to pack big bore back up.

$2.00 per round is a good price. When I bought mine about a year ago, most of it was $3.00 per round or higher!

Congratulations on the 4" model!

You will love it! Hold on tight!

Do you mean two-handed, or single-handed?

I always shoot mine two-handed and have never pulled the trigger twice, and I hold on TIGHT~!

I hope I never pull the trigger twice, I don't need it in my forhead!

$2.00 per round is a good price.

On second look, the box of ammo I bought had only 20 rounds, not the 25 I assumed making the cost $2.70 per. Not $2.00 per as I stated above.

That Cabella's bulk ammo price comes to $1.50 per round :) A couple of the reviews say it's underpowered but even it that's so, I'll get to shoot my 500 more and save the brass for reloading.

Get the "underpowered" bulk stuff at the cheap price. You are right, save the brass.

Even the 'underpowered' stuff will "knock your socks off."

Inspector, I am talking two handed. I have seen several people that were not use to the recoil of the 500 Mag, actually pull the trigger twice.

In my opinion, the 500 Mag is for seasoned handguner's.

The pulling the trigger twice was a common occurrence and was discussed in great detail on the S&W site.

Roger, thanks for the thumbs up on the double fire.

I am seasoned. My skin is even beginning to look it.:(

twoclones, nice comparison picture. Maybe you could make a belt buckle to hold your S&W for when you wear your wider belt.

I shoot the 2.75 sub nose and love it. It's about the lenght of my 4 inch 686.
If the shooter next to me is shooting 7 yards or closer he's going to have a hard time hitting his moving target :cuss:

If you get one just remember to keep your thumbs down.

There is now a 6.5 inch barrel that i think balances the gun the best, and it has a short barrel lug which truly makes it the most versatile set up for this type of weapon, there is an article on gunblast about the same model i described!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry guys, I looked at the 8-3/8" version the other day at a gun shop. The thing is huge! I kept thinking the gun should come with a sling or maybe wheels so you could tow it around. Too big for my wants or needs.

I'm sure its a kick to shoot though :)

:what: "when you're dealing with the "big boys" and pushing the limits, there's simply NO ROOM for a pansy grip or poor/flinchy trigger control. Pull the trigger and keep it pulled."

You can get a BFR:rolleyes:

I have two BFRs. What I'm saying is that you don't have to worry about the double trigger pull with the BFR, because it's single action. As a matter of fact, I prefer single action, because I hunt with them.

Redhawk. I picked up my 500 BFR when they had special on them, right before christmas. My first BFR is a 10" 450 Marlin. The 500 would shoot 2" groups right our of the box using a rest at 50 yards. They were low to the left, but the group was amazing.
I just purchaced a Nikon 2.5x8 scope, but I need the bases. When you get use to these guns, you tend to not want to shoot anything else. I have a test oak log that I test out my reloads on, and that 500 split it like a log spliter.

sounds like you really wnt one. go for it. buy ammo, save it as it will only get more so

Bulk ammo price increase!

On Friday I was just about to buy the bulk .500 Magnum ammo from Cabellas when I thought, "I should wait until after the gun show tomorrow." Wait I did and in the mean time the price increased $25 for each the 300 and the 350 grain.
