Anyone on the Board use the Model 60 for front pocket carry.

I am looking for something a little heavier than my 642 for faster follow up shots using 38+P ammo.

My thoughts are the 60 might pull the pants down a little too much for comfort :uhoh: but have never owned one.

Comments pro or con regarding the Model 60 would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Brian~!:D

No Sir, I have an old S&W model 60 (.38 Special) with an exposed hammer;
so I do not carry it in my front pants pocket. Instead, I use a soon to be
30 year old leather IWB as made by John Bianchi. But, nowdays I
mostly carry a box stock S&W 642, using the same rig~!:)

I had a old mod 60 38 spl. I used to carry it in my front pocket. I've nevered been bothered by a few oz in pocket I carry a SS PPK/S in pocket now most every day. In couple of weeks will be the S&W bodyguard in pocket Carried a old mod-36 for years. I don't want a 8 to 12oz pistol period. I want a little weight to help with the recoil.

I have front pocket carried a Model 36, Model 49 and Model 40. (Not all at the same time however).
If you wear a real man's belt instead of one of those skinny girly belts you won't have to worry about your pants falling own.

Now if you're of those gangsta wannabe guys who wears their pants falling off then you should be carrying a Glock on a bent coat hanger anyway.

I front pocket carry a model 640 no dash. The weight does not bother me the least and I chose the heavier model for the same reasons as you.

Have carried the S&W 36 in my front pant's pocket with no problem. Like they say, get a good belt.

My Model 60s are 3" heavy barrels; great kit guns but unsuitable for front pocket carry. For front pocket carry, I have used a Model 38 with satisfaction.

I holster my S&W 60 and 640 for all day carry. Short term pocket carry - no problem. S&W 642 and 442 are much more suited for pocket carry.

My friend used the 3" 357 mag mod 60 adj sight as a pocket carry gun in overalls in a pocket holster or with a handkerchief. I've used the mod 649 and other j frame or j frame equivilants like the Taurus 85ch in such carry modes.

I drop my model 60 in a front trousers pocket whenever I go out to check for mail, take out the trash, answer the door, et cetera. Pocket carry without a holster isn't a good method, but works just fine for occasional brief periods.

A good belt makes an enormous difference.

I pocket carry Model 36 2" Chief with full hammer spur on occasion. Sometimes in holster, sometimes not. A little on heavy side but not unbearable. Takes a little practice to keep the hammer from snagging on the draw, but it can be done.

Outline not clearly visible through denim jeans. If I don't have a jacket, etc. over my shirt, it'll go in the pocket.

Bottom line is pocket carry is better than no carry.

I have a 60. Carried it on and off for a while years ago. Weight was no problem, but I just never felt good about that exposed hammer that catches on clothing like a fishhook.

I also have 60, but since I picked up this 638 a couple months ago it's my new front pocket gun. I highly recommend it.

I have a Model 60 (.38 Special) stainless snubbie which I carry on walks in a Uncle Mike's nylon holster, or when I'm in a sweatsuit and have it in a fanny pack. Like the others above have stated, I would not put it anywhere where the hammer can snag. A concealed hammer snubbie would serve you best. either a 442 or a 640.

I've never even thought of carrying my model 60 in my pocket. Maybe I'll give it a shot...

On second thought, I think I'll pass.... :neener:

I carry my model 60 in the front pocket off and on ,I have a pocket holster for it and it works good. Usually though for extended carry Ill carry it IWB.

I have a new model 60, IMO it's too heavy when loaded to pocket carry for anything other than a trip to the mailbox or the like. A good IWB is my primary method of carry for this gun.

I tried carrying my 640 in my front pocket for about a year before deciding it was less than ideal in terms of weight. I now tote a 642 in the same place (with boot-syle grip) and have found it to be almost perfect...almost, because +Ps are a handful in the 642.

Bianchi #105 holster (short barrel 5 shot revolvers) and a sturdy belt works great with a S&W 60-14. Too heavy for all day front pocket carry. Short periods - no worries.
