What brands do I look at for a high quality magnum (.357 or .44) single action revolver? I'm looking for something with adjustable sights.

What brands are in the market? I know Ruger is and I like the looks of the few of theirs. I like the look of some of Colt's guns too but the prices (~ $1400 for the new frontier and it's only .44 special or .45 colt)

How are the safety features? Do most have the transfer bar still?

I would say I'm looking for something along the lines of the Ruger Blackhawk Hunter or the Colt New Frontier. 5ish"-8ish" - barrel Stainless is a plus especially if it has stainless innards.

Any chance an N-frame holster would accomadate a single-action revolver? I only ask because i have a really nice n-frame swivel holster.

Ruger New- Models all use a Transfer bar.

Older Ruger three-screws do not, and Colt does not, as they are a 'traditional' single-action.

Ruger makes stainless steel firearms.
Colt does not.

In your price range, with a transfer bar?
Ruger.

No, a single-action of any brand will not fit an N-Frame S&W holster.

You have alway answered your question. For the money a Ruger Black hawk is the best choice. You have many choices in the Black hawk line. Sure you can find a better revolver but not at a Ruger price. Freedom Arms makes a better revolver but plan on paying over $1500.00 for a good one.
Good luck,
Howard

They're not new by any means but Interarms made a pretty nice single action, with a different safety method (the Cylinder rod locks back to block the hammer). I'd hold out for one that's less money than a super blackhawk, as parts will likely be tough to find if they're available at all, but they're nice guns. The Virginian Dragoons have adjustable sights.

Ruger BlackHawk! Easy to tune up for smoothness, lots of stocks if you want a different look, comes stainless or blued. Built to last a couple-three lifetimes, can ingest some of the hottest loads you can throw at it and keep going.

O.K., I'm a Ruger fan, sorry for the bias :)
