Modify Rem 700 for stripper clips?

First as atleast two guys have pointed out, in the 60's there was a clip guide that mounted on the rear scope holes.

Also shortly after I joined THR there was a guy playing with mods to name brand rifles to allow them to use M-14 magazines.

I would spend a lot of time looking for one of the scope mount type stripper clip guides before I even considered sending my rifle to anyone.

You might try calling Mo's Competitive Supplies at 203-775-1013 he was supposedly an old high power shooter that some older boards direct folks to on this issue.

I understand the bolt on guides only work on the long action 700 but check with him.

here.. i just sketched this out real quick to illustrate the idea i was trying to describe that'll work for a simple stripper guide that wont involve cutting your receiver.. clearly the dimensions are off because this was just a really quick sketch, but im sure you get the idea

Very nice! Thanks!

I will contact the recommended vendors after Christmas and see what is available.

I appreciate the help!

Another user already posted that the service is available. I've seen several commercial Remington 700's and one push feed Model 70 modified to accept stripper clips. They are used by various guys I've met over the years at the range for rifles they have set up for iron sight competition.

I did not try them out myself, so I cannot say if they function as reliably as a military Mauser or similar action made deliberately for stripper clips. I imagine they did function fine, since I recall these guys practicing away and loading with their stripper clips. If you got some input from shooters in these types of competitions, you would get some pretty good insight into the process.

Even an M1a (M-14) has a guide to allow loading via stripper clips, and I have seen them that way. When surplus 303 was cheap (20 years ago) I picked up bandoleers of ammo already on the strippers and shot the hell out my Lee-enfield.

Not a bad idea to use them, although it would limit scope options to a scout scope or red dot.

If you wanted one, you could hunt down one of these rifles already modified, which might take some time, or send yours out to a gun smith to be milled.

I thought I read that the repro M40 (700) sniper rifle has such a stripper guide.
