Modular Rifles - From KISS to "Complex"

I have not read every post here, but simple is good. My patrol carbine was an AR15A2 Colt Govt Carbine, with the skinny barrel, and telescoping stock. I added a GG&G rail to the lower handguard for mounting a modest Surefire light, an ambi Ergo grip, and an ambi safety. I installed a Norgon ambi mag release, then found it unnecessary, as the factory mag release works better for lefties than for righties anyway. Perfect AR, except that I could not focus on the front sight any more as I got older, and my agency will not allow optics. I can still focus on the front sight of a 20" AR, or a Bushmaster Dissipator, so I sold my AR15A2 to a co-worker who wanted a KISS AR15. (FWIW, my vision is still 20/20 or better, except for things very close to my face.) Then I bought something I like even better than any AR, with superb handling qualities, a safety/selector switch PERFECT for lefties, and with a front sight that falls within my focusing abilities, a MINI-14! Life is good. :)
