So I was at Academy and saw Monarch (PPU MADE) and decided to pick up a box. Shot very good out of my Encore. I mean MOA good of bags. I was impressed think I found my new range ammo and the brass looks good as well

Anyone else ever try this stuff?

I have used the .308 Monarch in my Stevens Mod. 200 and a CETME with extremely good results. And have used countless rounds of pistol rounds in .38spl, .357mag. .40S&W, and .45acp, steel case and brass case. No problems with any of that either. A little dirty, but works good.

the steel cased rifle ammo is soft steel jacketed with minimal copper on top. It will probably shorten your barrel life. Monarch .308 wouldnt even fire reliably in my AR-10 with a 4lb trigger. Out of 20 I got maybe 5 to fire and those 5 were dirtier than 20 rounds of corelokts. Academy did give me my money back, it is the only ammo they will take back for refund. They are sourcing ammo from all over eastern Europe so there are probably 20+ ex commie bloc suppliers under the Monarch house brand.

As I understand it, Monarch uses PPU brass, but isn't actually PPU-assembled. I've not heard much good about this ammo. By most accounts, it's worse than Wolf, and often underloaded.

Well since I unpack and shelve it weekly if not daily, I'll say that every shipping carton (case lot) of Brass-cased Monarch is clearly marked as having come directly from Privi Partizan and every box of PPU marked ammo is marked "Made in Serbia" and if i remember the rules/law regarding imports correctly, that has to refer to the completed ammo not simply the brass.

Yes the brass cased Monarch varies in quality and load efficiency based on what caliber/load it is, and not every firearm will like it. My personal experience is that the .308 won't group well and uses cases too soft to reload, and the .45acp goes bang every time but is filthy, leaving unburned powder all over the shooter and anything near/within a few feet of the muzzle, and noticably more amounts of soft/sooty fouling inside the pistol.

But we (those of us who work the counter at my store) receive tremendously more positive feedback on it than negative. especially the pistol loads, it beats the heck out of Blazer!!

the steel case loads are all Barnaul btw

also just a side Note "Monarch" is a sort of universal "Store brand" within academy it's also the branding of our "store brand" lawn furniture, grill accessories, etc. there is no actual "monarch" company.

I shot a box of 130's and 150's out of my .270 when I first got it just to get comfortable and see what kind of ammo the gun liked and guess what... It shot just fine by me.

I did have quite a dirty barrel but I was shooting decent groups with it considering the price(BUT it was with my savage:))

Also, anyone reloaded any of this? I almost tossed it a while back but didnt.

as i noted above I tried reloading a batch of PPU .308 brass... to say it was soft would be to say rain is wet! the following two cases were typical of my start loads of IMR 4895!

so ejector marks, blown primers/loose primer pockets, and sticky extraction from brass too soft to "spring back" sufficiently from the chamber wall.

I've been told by others that the .303Brit and (back when we were actually getting it) 7.62x54R cases worked well. don't know about the .270 loads so best i can say if load a small batch and see how it goes.

Monarch .223 and .40 has been fine for range fodder. Dirty but functional. The price seems to fluctuate and sometimes Federal is cheaper at Walmart, but sometimes Academy is cheaper (we're talking about pennies here though). My experience with .45 is mixed with unburned powder and feeding problems from several years ago, to flawless operation with a few boxes of the newer stuff.

I have reloaded about 1000 .45 ACP PPU cases without issues. No loose primer pockets, case lengths within specs, no extractor gouges on fired cases.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I shoot Monarch ammo in 9mm all the time in several pistols. Never an issue. If you are worried about getting your gun dirty, don't shoot it. That is what cleaning kits are for.....chris3

The only Monarch rifle ammo I have shot was .223. No problems shooting. Getting decent groups WAS a problem and the rifle I used it in was very accurate with other brands of ammo. The brass reloaded just fine and I'm still reloading it.

Monarch is actually two brands, the brass cased is usually made by Privi, the steel cased is usually from the same plant as Brown Bear.

Works well for me.

The brass cased Monarch .30-30 150 grain SP's shoot great out of my M1894. They make a ragged hole at 25m from prone with a sling... and the fact that it is a ragged hole instead of a clean one probably has more to do with my shooting than the ammo. The price is definitely right at under $0.50/round, and plus it's reloadable. No complaints here.

I have also shot several hundred rounds of Monarch brass case .38 Special and .380 ACP without any issues.

It's definitely good practice ammo, and you can use the cases to load your non-practice ammo! :)

Never had a problem with Monarch rifle ammo. As someone else mentioned, it's a little dirty. I HAVE had issues with their 38 and 357 revolver ammo, though. It's on my "do not buy" list.

I actually LOVE that stuff in .45ACP, its actually what I shoot best out of my 1911. For rifle I use it for plinking in .223 and .308 and it works great.
