So..I've been trying to get this guy into guns for maybe 15 years. Finally, He bought his first rifle. He did it without telling me beforehand, but I think he did really good for himself. It's a Montgomery Wards Model 880 that I believe is a Colt Colteer.

I know for a fact that we have some really smart people here, so what can you guys tell me about this model. What years were they sold? He especially wants to know what kind of wood, since it is a beautiful tiger stripe pattern.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Western Field model's 580EJN, 807AECH, and 880 were Colt Colteer's.

Colt made the Colteer between 1965 and 1975.

As I recall, both Sears and Wards stopped selling thier own trade-named firearms not too long after passage of the 1968 Gun Control Act, as that put an end to all mail order catalog gun sales.

That should help you pin it down to a few years, and thats all I know!
