I have been on a mission to find moonclips that work with the brass I am using to reload my 38 Special loads. Everything I try is just too tight and thing starts to twist like crazy. I just spent 70 bucks on another ten clips, and they are still just a bit too tight. So I went at it with a dremel and looosened them up. They seem to be working.

Has anyone else had to do this?

I had a thousand rounds of armscor 38 special ammo, so that is the brass I am reloading. The extractor appears to be larger than others for some reason.

TK Custom sell two thicknesses of moon clips. One works best with Starline and R-P cases, the other with W-W and others.

In other words, one size does not fit all.

I've settled on the moon clips that work with Starline and R-P cases for my moon clipped ammunition. All the other cases, I don't use with moon clips.

I use Ranch brand clips. They seem to work OK with the hodgepodge of mixed range brass I use.
That said, I have found that the 38 spl is MUCH more finicky about round to clip fit than rimless cases like the 9mm and 45 acp. In particular, the clip needs to be seated at the very bottom of the case and not twisted/bent in any way. . I usually press down on the clip with a screw driver blade between each round after I load the clips. The final test is that each round has to have some ability to spin /move once it's seated. Otherwise the whole thing will bind going into the cylinder.

ps I've read that Rimz brand plastic clips are more forgiving.

I settled on an assortment of TK Custom moonclips to accommodate the assorted brass I use in my model 640 PC Pro Series. None will fit the groove-less aluminum cased CCI / Speer shotshells, though.

For walking around the property, I use a HKS speedloader with one shotshell and four BB 38+P Outdoorsman 158 grain SWC. The spare moonclips are loaded with either 38 Spl 158 grain JHP anti-personnel loads or 38+P 158 grain SWC Outdoorsman loads along with one moonclip loaded with 357 magnum 180 grain RNFP-GC for the bigger "unsociable" critters.
