Apart from the questionable constitutionality of the NFA, I have been seriously struggling with the morality of it all. Can anyone make an intelligent case for imprisonment up to 10 years, loss of personal properties, fines to $10k (and in some cases up to $500k for failure to pay the tax stamp), and the permanent loss of gun rights for something as simple as...
These are just a few of many instances in which the violator has caused absolutely no bodily harm or injury to anyone, nor would possession of any of these items cause them to suddenly lose control and go on a killing rampage. No loss or damage to another's personal property has taken place. Not one meaningful crime has been committed, and yet they are all strictly enforced with bizarrely strict penalties. Why? Doesn't this constitute cruel and unusual punishment? I am starting to seriously wonder how anyone associated with the arrest and prosecution of these individuals can live with themselves, or am I missing something? If ANY weapon, firearm of any type or otherwise, is used to commit a real crime, then the perpetrator is rightly due the strictest penalties afforded by law, but up to 10 years, fines and a felony record for duct taping a dowel on to a pistol? Given the penalties I wouldn't come with 100 miles of any NFA violations, but the point is that it seems soooo wrong on so many levels...
